second chance 67 chevy, project from hell

[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG]Hello everyone my name is Eric and I am new to the forums. I have been building cars for years now. I was in the middle of building my blown 429 boss 1940 ford coupe a little over a yr ago, when I found a finished 1967 (or so I thought)chevy short bed for sale on ebay. My wife and I wanted a truck we could cruise around in and take to local shows. I called the owner worked out a deal and purchased the truck site unseen. This was my first mistake. Let me tell you a plane ticket is less expensive.
History of the deal. Truck rolls off the truck and man does it look nice. Full frame off custom painted frame and body. Hood was not on the truck and I was told it was because he did not have the time to put it on because he was to buisy. Truck was supposed to run but the guy stated he had not driven it because again he was too buisy. Back to the story. Pull the truck into the garage and charge the battery and fire the truck up. The motor (92 lt1 corvette engine)is running on 4 cylinders and is blowing water out the exhaust like a fire house. Traced down all water lines and found a water line pluged into the intake manifold. Remove the line and placed it were it is supposed to go. and check the cap and rotor. also known as optispark. Let me tell you otispark is the craps and is the biggest piece of poop gm ever came up with. Replaced it because it was bad along with all the wires and plugs. Fire the truck and it ran but was still blowing a little water. Pulled the motor and replaced the head gasket and the mains. Put the motor back in and fired the truck. It was running great. now we are 2 weeks into it and I am going to take it for a test drive. I go to back it ouyt of the drive way and the trans blows. Push the truck back into the garage and drop the trans. Take it to the trans shop and they tell me there is not even a single part in the trans that is any good including the housing. So I now have to replaced the 700r4 $1500 along with a new stall converter $500. So i call the guy and tell him he mis represented the truck and I want some money back. 2000 for the trans, he states he spent all the money and can give me 500. I tell him 1000 and he is extremely lucky that I have the ability to fix the truck. If it were someone that could not he would most likly be getting getting a letter from an attorny, long story short I decided to tear the truck down to the frame and start over to the fact that i new it was not built correctly and boy was I right. No carter pins on the steering castle nuts, no lock washers, or nylon nuts on the trailing arms. Stripped brake line connection glued back together with pipe dope. Hood was off 2 inches because sheet metal was not gaped and fitted before it was painted. Rear cross member was not welded in placed and was the cross member that the rear triangle attached too. so the rear end was moving left to right. Very dangerous as you all no. Ok so I am done with all the wrongs fast forward to were I am now.
Pull truck apart replaced all the brake lines and valves with stainless and earls fittings, removed 1000 pounds of body filler from the frame and boxed in the back half of the truck. Re welded the notch and reinforced it. Replaced the motor with a blown 427 chevy, 2 850 demon carbs and 871 bds blower. Vintage air and custom painted trans and block. Powder coated every part on the under carage and replaced all bushings and placed pins on all castle nuts. New chrome shocks and replaced all air line and fittings and switches to the air ride. Redid all of the body work and paint and replaced the brakes with wilwoods. Had Frank wallick from colorado do all new dash, seats, door and kick panels, inner bed panels and and bed tubs out of air plaine aluminum and brass. Built custom inner fenders up front. And replaced all wiring because the original wiring look like my 3 yr old daughter did it. I have done this build in the last yr and I wanted to know what you guys thought so far. The project is called second chance and was modeled after a world war 2 air plane which is a douglas 47. The color on the frame is called silver vein and the out side is painted olive drab gloss green, I will be putting photos up tonight. The moral of this build is beauty is only skin deep. It was my fault that I did not fly out and look at the truck before I bought it. I hope you guys like this project because I have worked my tail off on it it along with my father and friends.

Looking forward to pics.

I agree, I never buy a vehicle, sight unseen.

Glad you didn't give up but sounds like a lot of work, time and $$$

Re: second chance 67 chevy, project from hell

when i got my truck the oil pan was half unbolted, the hood was made from 80 % bondo, and it had wires run from the cab to every direction of the truck with no connection at the end of it. cant wait to see the pics.

Re: second chance 67 chevy, project from hell

I have also bought sight unseen projects - only to be super disappointed in the end.

Nice to see you stuck with it. Not sure what you paid, but I was have went after him for more than $1k - even if he already spent it - misrepresentation is still misrepresentation.

Nice truck though (now). Keep the pix coming.
