Newb's Short 70 Project

Starting my first attempt to quench the "project" need. Good thing I picked a true project...

Working on a 1970 c10 that was picked up from a good friend of mine who was looking to get rid of it. Considering the amount of time that he's spent helping me with it up to this point already, he may end up asking for it back. Here are the starting pictures for the truck.

My current plans include:

350 w/Edelbrock top end kit
5 lug front/rear
Front disc brakes
4.5/4 drop
Flat blue exterior
New tires/rims (unsure size as of yet)
Filled dashpad holes
Tan/blue interior

Unless I manage to win the lottery, I envision this list encompassing a good while...

Re: Newb's Short 70 Project

A good friend took pity on me and offered to do some bodywork on the truck for me. After starting to tear it down, it quickly became apparent that it needs a lot of work.

One of the major issues is the drip rail. It's rusted through at the drivers side and the truck had a lot of lead filler on the passenger side.

Nothing like stripping paint with an air blower... Sure hope the paint job I throw down on the truck doesn't end up coming off like this. Then again if I screw it up, maybe it would be nice...

Re: Newb's Short 70 Project

Got to first coat of primer on the hood, cowl, and front drivers side fender. Rolled the old girl out for some sun while priming. A part of me wants to just leave the back end off, run the small block with open headers, and call it a day

My buddy Chad smoothed the back roof seam for me. Looks awesome! If anyone needs a good bodyman in the Chattanooga, TN area...

More sanding/priming on the horizon...

Thanks all for the encouragement!

Good eye 70clone. You know you've got quality tools from Harbor Freight when the "chrome" peels off the wobble extension set...

Re: Newb's Short 70 Project

I'm confused. Your location says SoCal. Last time I checked that was pretty far from Chattanooga. I like what he did to the cab though.

Cool build BTW.

I'm not sure mine even made it to the "pulling out of the package"... but can't beat the price

Yeah, nice catch on the location. I'm in SoCal, but the autobody guy lives in Chattanooga. He flew out on a break from school to work on the truck. Would have loved to be a fly on the wall when his suitcase full of autobody tools went through TSA security at the airport
