Question Trans swap - bellhousing compatibility question.

G'day all.

Currently have a 1967 C10, Saginaw 3 speed behind an Inline 6 250.

I plan on swapping out the trans for a NP440/MY6 A833 4 speed overdrive trans out of a early 80's truck - the trans I'm buying is the standard GM mount, and not the Chrysler/GM hybrid.

What I need to know is, can I use my current bellhousing from the 3 speed?

Reason I ask is, my truck is a factory right-hand drive truck, which means my clutch fork is on the right side. The bellhousing that comes with the A833 is from a LHD truck, so it's clutch fork is on the left.

Can I use my current bellhousing, or will I need to find another alternative (custom, etc)?

Thanks for your time.

Cheers,
Russ

Re: Trans swap - bellhousing compatibility question.

I did a little searching since your question got my interest. I have the same engine and transmission and have kicked the idea of installing a 4 speed on mine. Here's something of what I found on this site and this article which may or may not help: http://www.customclassictrucks.com/t..._transmission/

GM called it both A833OD and NP440. The RPO # was MY6. There were two types of the trans installed in the trucks from 81-86. One had the same bolt pattern as any Muncie, BW, or Saginaw and would bolt up to a standard GM bellhousing if you turn down the bearing cover. This is the one I have and it's bolted to a '621' bellhousing. The other had a specific bellhousing because the bolt pattern. It looked like the one on the left in this pic.

Ah thank you. Hadn't seen that Bangshift post.

Sounds like I'm good to go. Thanks again for the help.
