1967 c10 250 powerglide sbc swap

I am going to be swapping in a SBC in place of my 250. My truck has a Powerglide trans that I am keeping at least for now. My question is will the flex plate and starter work with the V8?

early (2 pc seal) or late (1 pc seal)? The early small block flexplates do interchange I6 to V8. But that being said, why? If I was going to all the trouble of a V8 swap I would put a new flexplate and a gear reduction starter on it. My .02

It's a newer 1 piece seal block. I'll go with new in that case. Now I need to figure out what I'm looking for when it comes to the starter and flexplate.

I think you will need a new flexplate that is externally balanced.

Before you install the engine make sure the flexplate holes to the convertor line up & the convertor center fits in the crank ok. You can drill new holes in the flexplate if nessesary.

383 strokers and 400 sbc are externally balanced
350s are internally balanced
Block should be drilled for both 168 and 153 tooth starters

If your keeping points distributor make sure starter has the connection for it its the outer small wire connection stud on the solenoid

My understanding is that a 350 with a one-piece rear main seal (1987-2000) requires an externally balanced flex plate, such as this one:

I'd keep the 250 L6 and get a TH350 tranny.

"350 with a one-piece rear main seal (1987-2000) requires an externally balanced flex plate"

A balanced flex plate is required because GM removed some of the crankshaft's counterweight to accommodate the one piece seal installation.

And yes the THM350 is a better choice. (PG has a first gear that is very close to the THM350's second gear) So you effectively get a PG with a first gear. when converting to a THM350.
However, I get it. A new motor is expensive and sometimes requires one change at a time. PS. (the PG) will work sweeter if you can retain the stock kick down linkage. The Throttle Valve is driven by linkage instead of a cable makes the conversion more difficult but it can be done. Don't forget you will need the V8 motor mounts that bolt to the frame. I believe the rubber mounts, from the 6Cylinder, can be reused but you need to confirm that. Judging by the number of posts you already know that.

This glide is pretty pretty fresh. She’ll be just fine behind only 350hp. I don’t beat on it. Just a cruiser.
