Re: "The Northbay G Machine" 1969 GMC shorty build

Cracked a piston in the 010 350 so time to rebuild it. Slapped in the old 307 and decided to try some ceramic mid length Chevelle headers I picked up off the bay for $150.
Time to use the mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust tubing, summit x pipe. and 40 series flows.
also picked up a set of motor perches from cpp that I thought would help make some more room for the headers but ended up modifying them too
I ran into problems with the z bar not having room to be mounted to the stock location and having real tight clearances between the header and oil filter. I modified the hell out of the original Z bar.

here is a shoot of how much room i had to work with.

Had to move my e brake cable slightly to clear the x pipe. worked great.

Re: "The Northbay G Machine" 1969 GMC shorty build

Started the 2nd gen F body graft, this is where I made my first cuts and how It progressed.

Some portion of the sub frame's outer edge will be removed.

here it is cut and slid into the frame. I still need to cut the truck frame more.

Moved the frame inside a tarp enclosure to get out of the sun

Cleaning up the sub frame and welding it up.

hit the inside of the frame up with por 15

finished welding it up and decided to spray some oil based Rustolium on there just to protect the metal I wont be keeping the blue color but its what i had on hand.

Re: "The Northbay G Machine" 1969 GMC shorty build

Thanks brother,
Cant wait to get it rolling, and surprise some people at the local auto x events
Its not too common to see trucks carving corners and thats one of the cool things about this build.
This frame should be quite stiff once completed with it boxed and x framed.
The rear section of the frame will also have the added benefit of a square structure over it (the bed ) to furthermore resist twisting.
I will show you guys when I get to that point.

Ive decided to go with a 3 link setup in the rear but I will continue to use the leaf system until I get to that point.

Re: "The Northbay G Machine" 1969 GMC shorty build

Little update. Ive done quite a bit on the truck since I last posted. Ive been real busy with things and having to move my shop and my home set things back. Since I last posted, Ive put together a stout little 500 hp pump gas 460 BBC, Installed a built TH400 and and rebuilt my 12 bolt with 4.11 gears. The Truck has been lowered another inch in the back.
The truck currently runs low 12's on street tires with reserved throttle movement off the line. best 1/4 time 12.1 @111. The truck should be in the mid to 11's with traction. Hopefully the Tubed frame with graft Ive been working on with the 18.5 mickeys will help there.
I still have not finished the Frame I was working on but plan to start on it again this month. I will upload some pictures of my progress over the last 2 years.
Looking forward to getting back on this!

I'm defiantly going to tune in on your build. Your steps to your frame build is really nice. I've been thinking about putting a sub frame on my frame, but I think I may run into some road blocks. Not real sure yet.
