front bumper brace orientation?

I have noticed that the po of my '67 shortstep did not always put things in as they were intended. Having trouble mounting my new bumper and wondering which way the slotted end in the outside brace goes. Toward bumper or frame? Thanks

Re: front bumper brace orientation?

Well I can't see the slot on mine with the nuts and washers in place, but I can tell you on my 1969 truck the longest of the flat edges goes against the bumper and is below the bolt on the bumper. So if your bracket looks like this I would say slotted side on the bumper. On a side note, I found I had to have ALL of the bolts loose and all nuts started in order to get the bumper to fit. That included the bolts that hold the top and side brackets to the frame. I just tried to "just bolt the bumper on" without loosening the brackets and I couldn't get it to work.

Re: front bumper brace orientation?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. At least I'll know that they are facing the correct direction when I put it back together.
