Re: Ummm.....

I am lost as to how a "broke" frame will cause a power loss. The "missing" bolts that "fell out all at once" were probably not there in the first place.

The power loss is probably just a tried ol' 305. They had no power from the factory.

Re: Ummm.....

When the bolts "all fall out at once" what's generally happened is that they fell out individually over time, and they weren't noticed until that last one fell out or snapped off from the stress it was bearing.

Thanks for the reply. I do understand a broke frame would not cause loss of power I was just explaining how the truck felt. I was never taught about mechanics but always been interested in it. Due to personal reason I got the motivation to do small things myself and learn what I can even most of the time it makes no sence.

Re: Ummm.....

Everything droped a good 6inches and the back of the engine is against the firewall. you can also see where it split open 4 inches along passenger frame in engine bay. My grandfather got this truck as a project for us to spend more time together before he passed and never got the chance. But it seems like the best thing for me to do is push it off a clif and go fishin. Thanks for the help

Re: Ummm.....

The only thing I can see in those pics, is it looks like the rear driveshaft is bent? Aside from that I can't see anything out of the ordiinary in those pics.

Re: Ummm.....

I think all of us are eagerly wanting to see a broken frame -- but somehow either missing it in the pictures, or the pictures don't show the frame clearly.

I can kinda tell then engine is sitting lower, almost like the bolts from the engine mounts broke clean off and it sunk. But even that's hard to see. It's not entirely clear... and at first I thought I was just going crazy (which isn't entirely out of the question, lol). But now that others are having trouble interpreting the pictures, do you have any better pictures of the crack or separation? Could it just be broken motor mounts or bolts that fell out of the mounts?

Re: Ummm.....

If you're refering to the reverse arch in the stock front springs... that is completely normal. GM built all their leaf srpung 4x4's that way from 1973 until the IFS front end came out in the late 80's. And that won't make the cab sit lower over the engine. Only shot body mounts will do that.

Again... a 305 in a 4x4 with oversized tires is why you feel no power.

Yeah, my first thought was "wow, someone stole your front drive shaft -- there's your problem!" But then I didn't see a transfer case and he said it was a 2wd...

Re: Ummm.....

Looks to me like maybe he is talking about the inner fender separated from the frame. I dont have a 73+ so I dont really know but thats all I can see.

Re: Ummm.....

the inner fender well is supposed to be like that. There is supposed to be a rubber filler piece that takes up that gap between fender and frame.

I'm thinking it has a after market cross member and the bolts came out allowing the rear to drop til the engine hit the firewall
