My 67-72 Build(s)

A year and a half ago a close family friend gave me two trucks and a ton of parts. It included (What he thought was) a 68 cab and chassis, a fairly complete 69/70 Stepside and a pile of fenders, grills, doors, and an extra swb fleetside bed. Life's gotten in the way since then with more than a couple family health emergencies, school, and a general lack of time and funds. So a year and a half later my dad and I set off on Saturday to bring home a bed-load of parts, the cab and chassis. After some looking over it's actually a '72 cab and chassis. We're going back this weekend (depending on rain and heat) to get the stepside and other parts. Also between last January and now my dad got me a surprise gift of a bagged 68 project. It's kinda rough but all the components are there to make a hell of a nice truck. The previous owner was a friend of my dad's who unfortunately suffered a heart attack while mowing the lawn and passed away mid-build. His wife and son sold it to my dad knowing that the project he started would be loved and finished my us. So I have 3 trucks, a ton of parts, and 3 different visions. All are shortbeds, and I'll try to post some pics when I get home. Purists be warned, none will remain or be built to stock

My phones being uncooperative so photobucket links it is. This is the bagged 68, the bodywork's rough, but it's a project so it's expected. It's a 350/350 combo column shift, green bench seat interior, modern pioneer head unit, Viair compressors and air accessories, firestone bags, 15in steelies with caps, a c notch, and 67 fenders, a fiberglass cowl hood (unknown brand), also has a 2ish inch body and bed drop.

This is the cab and chassis I got a few days ago. Not going to be the cab I use since it lacks a vin tag (Said family friend drilled it out to paint the cab and lost the tag ) so the search for an AC cab is on. The frame is a swb 72 5lug chassis. Going to sandblast it and reassemble with a 4/6 kit. Also going to ride on steelies and caps. Will use the extra fleetside bed on it, will receive a 67 clip, shaved bed and a rebuilt junkyard 6.0/4L80E. Will be painted either black or dark navy blue.

And lastly the stepside. I'm unsure if it's a 69 or 70 as one door is locked and the other handle is broken. I think it's someone's old hot rod from the 80s or 90s, as it's been repainted yellow, possibly with a shop logo on the doors (so oxidized and covered in moss I can't tell), it's on Pontiac full size rally wheels (will be replaced with steelies and caps, notice a trend? ) needs a full cleaning and gutting. Since I'll have a sbc and an Ls, I think I'll look for a BBC for this one. If it's not rusted out, I may leave the yellow, if it's rusty I'll patch and repair and maybe go with a deep red or green. Or flat black.

Hi men! I totally loved the stance. I'm currently building my own and I'm sold!! thats the look I want to persue.

Can you tell me the rim size and the tire specs?

15in Steelies, I'm asuming just regular 15x7's. I can't recall the exact tire size but I'll check later as I'm going out to the shop today. I want to say they're 215/60r15 on the fronts and 235/65r15 on the rears but I could be very wrong.

Completely forgot I had made this thread Not much has changed. Next week I'll be sanding the 68 down and my dad will be spraying it flat black to help protect it, and that's how it will remain until spring when I'll bust it back apart, re-do the rockers and other sketchy bodywork, and then my dad will spray it British Racing Green. Before I get hate for my dad doing "All the work" he's been an automotive painter for over 25 yrs, was a tech for Spies Hecker in the 90s (Traveled and taught other painters how to use the product), and has had a Hotwheel designed after a Challenger Funny Car he painted awhile, so I'm leaving painting to the pro. Thread probably will not be updated until about Oct or Nov as my dad's going in for open heart surgery and is finishing other projects for friends and family, plus he will not want to miss any part of these builds.

I was wondering about the 1972 cab and chassis you got.. I also have a 1972 Chevy pick up and I am going to fix it up to be a touring truck.. But I don't know if I should get a new chassis for it, or if it would be more feasible to do the same kinda thing you're doing with the frame and keep the original.. (because I am for sure adding new suspension to it which would mean some modifications to the frame) And what are you going to use the truck for? are you going to bag it?

For the 72 frame and cab my plan was a static drop, LS-powered driver, sort of a pro touring but with about half the budget. To be exact it will have the appearance of a 67 short fleet, black, black wheels, black leather buckets and console, steel bed, tailgate handle relocated to inside the bed with a N/a 6.0/4L80E with a 3.73 Posi rear. Not looking to thrash it on the Autocross course or a drag strip just a nice weather driver that I can be proud of.

Are you going to have a triangulated four link? And are you going to add sway bars? Are you going to keep the original rear housing?

Have not thought that far ahead yet. Focusing on the 68 and possibly a 94 Caprice. I may just keep the stock trailing arm setup, just with lowering springs, I do plan on front and rear sway bars but time will tell.
