do you ?
whats all the stampings on the very edge of your ring gear state ?? the year and teeth counts wil be listed on it, and the date code will be cast onto a webbing of the center housing also.

whats truck is it and what rear axle is it ? 4.11 was available in 1/2 ton all years of 67-72, but only three trucks that i know of in existence have the ratio,

Well I will have to check the next time I do a lube chage but the gears were a 4.11 set by the teeth count when I was chaging the fluid.

I assume they are the factory gears as they are 4.11 by count and my option code on my GB door says 411 axle ratio.

Anything else I should check for?

I've got the 4 speed Ch-465/327 combo too. I'm not sure of the gear ratio though. I guess I have the default ratio for that combo. I don't have any other ratios listed on my build sheet.

Mine came stock with it, and also a 3 speed manual with overdrive. It was part of the option.

4.11 was not avaialable in 67-72 for K10 trucks, check the data book and see for yourself,

68 with tpi, yeap you got 4.11 then, good deal! you didnt mention it was on label even! you dont need to check anything else lol

luckymic34 is correct, o/d M10 came with 4.11 automatically was part of the M10 rpo

Tom68, 4.11 not available with 327 or 396 engine in 68.
327 not available with o/d M10 tranny
327 and 4 speed should be 3.73 std ratio according to data book

i dunon if you have a 68 data book or not or copy of conventinal gasoline section or not.

I'm still trying to figure why anyone would want one gear in front, and another in the rear. All that would do is wear tires, break transfer cases, and make it funny in the snow.

Fast, I know that you have more experience than most with these trucks but I can tell you (I probably have approx, 10 more years playing with old Chevy's than you, just a function of age) that there are no absolutes when it comes to Chevy products. The data book may state that there are no 4:10/4:11 combos but I can guarantee you that if Ma Bell wanted to order 100 4 wheel drive stepsides with that gear ratio then they would get it. The collection of real world truck data from this era is what makes us all smarter. The General printed the data but just like today, the print shop and the production line didn't always agree. I can tell you, this closed knuckle front end has factory 4:11's. This truck's history has been documented since conception. The point of this response is just to tell you.......be open to the possibility....

Longhornmail, while I was writing my dissertation you responded. All 4x4's have an offset gear ratio. It works better offroading to have the front spinning slightly faster than the rear.

breeh is right about the offset, all ahve that normally, 4.55 is front ratio in our 3/4 ton 4x4 trucks, 4.57 in rear, so,,,,

but 1/2 ton 4x4 were std with 3.73 front and rear, so,,,,

it doesnt hurt anything it actually helps traction to pull truck through mud instead of pushing and getting rear stuck first.

i hahve yet to see a truck with any other ratio than what data book says would have per drivetrain, i know that its not solid after what the print says, you could order whatever you wish to probably if you are rich enough, but i think not even 1/2 a percent of our trucks were ordered with incorrect normally not available ratio or option that other trucks couldnt get per factory data specifications., hence the yenko and baldwin motion camaros....and others.
trucks were not something that they were doing that to, they were for work not for play back then, no one was gonna spend extra $$ to get 4.11 in a 1/2 ton 4x4 that GM says was not available for those,.
i have a point here, dunno if it showed or made sense, i tried lol
