What do you guys do for exhaust hangers. I bolt mine onto the frame and then weld the bottom to the exhaust pipe so I don't have to use an ugly clamp. But then every time I go hot rod the truck the hangers break. It broke these two last night.

Try welding a J hook to the top of the pipe and using a rubber hannger then another J hook.

You can buy the rubber part at autozone fore 3 $ and the J hooks you can make yourself.

The problems you are having is that there is not enough play in the system and it will break when the engine etc moves under load.

I agree with 68. You need something that has give. the exhaust system needs play to it cuz it vibrates, sways and all sorts of junk. i've got a j-type hook welded to the ehaust pipe then a rubber strip maybe 3/4" thick and 5" long it bolts to the hanger and to the frame, has appropriate play to it so it wont break or anything.

It also grows in length when it gets hot, and shrinks when it cools. You need some form of a flexible mount to account for this.

I had that setup on it before, but the rubber broke. Thats why I went to this type. The rubber one was welded on just like these, no J hook though. They looked like these here except a 3/4" thick piece of rubber about 2" long in the middle. I suppose bending some thicker steel for the J should be strong enough.

Instead of welding to that hanger in the pic, why don't you just use some clamps like when you clamp on your mufflers to the exhaust pipe, thats what i'm gonna use, hopefully.

You may also want to check your motor/tranny mounts to make sure they aren't broke. If they are bad, they will allow too much movement and aggravate the problem.

Mine has racing wire holding up the muflers.
