Restoring a 72

Hi everyone
I have a 1972 GMC Sierra custom that is in need of restoration.
Due to the fact that I am in Canada and the exchange rate is terrible plus all the added freight to bring parts up north, I was wondering if any of you in the USA know a shop that you would recommend that specializes in restorations on this type of vehicle?

KMS Car parts carry all kinds of parts for Chevy and GMC as well as other brands of truck or car kmscarparts.com they are in Vancouver B.C but they do ship.Hope this helps

I've heard that KMS is awesome to deal with in BC. But in Alberta they are brutal, extremely long shipping times and very little knowledge.

I am in the Edmonton area, the truck is all there and does run, just tired.
I am looking at doing a frame off and fuel tank relocation.
I was thinking of taking it to the USA as part of a road trip and to save $$ on freight for large items, like a new box for the truck.

When I get a lot of parts, I get them shipped to the border and make a run to get them. I have used Scott's trucks in Alberta and had good success with them.

I would suggest you order lots of stuff at once and have it shipped to the business on the attached pic. They will even store a vehicle in an enclosed compound for you. Seeing you are in Alberta all you have to pay is GST on the Canadian dollar value of the goods you are importing. If you buy 2000.00US worth of parts and with the current exchange rate of 30/33% you'd have to pay 5% GST on about 2650.00 which is only 132.50.. Some US suppliers like Summitt Racing have free shipping within the USA on any order over 100.00.. Just a thought, do you really want to leave your truck in a foreign country for a restoration and come back to check on it everyonce in awhile? You would also have to pay GST on the Canadian dollar equivalent cost of the restoration. Here are a couple of Canadian suppliers I've used that are great..

IF you are wanting a restoration done, I know a guy to call. He does paint and body, but has a brother who handles the mechanical stuff.

Understand, a complete restoration will be extremely expensive. However, he can do it, and has done several of these trucks. Mostly, he does custom work, however, a straight up restoration is likely easier.

He did the paint and body alignment on my truck. I'll check with him to see how quickly he can get to it, and send you a PM. He is in northern TN, so it won't be as easy as a local guy, but if you truly want somebody who can do the work, he can.
