i am going to be running a 4 bolt main 355 flat top piston with pro comp alum. 64cc 190cc runner 2.02 1.60 valve heads with a comp thumpr cam 0.479 intake and 0.465 exhaust cam performer air gap intake and edelbrock 650 carb

please tell me what u think....

I'm going to say about 1 HP/CID: 355HP. I'll run a DDA tonight for grins.

i really have no idea on the compression, if i had to guess, id say 9:1 or 9.5:1

At 9.5-1 compression Im gonna say a peak of 345hp right at about 5500rpm. Im going to venture that the torque curve isnt that great. I personally would change the cam to a comp xe or lunati voodoo. The size of cam your in is going to sound good regardless But the Thumpr cam is going to hurt low end a bunch and top end wont be so hot because of the relatively small lift.

Couldn't agree more with the camshaft comment. The XE268 or a Magnum 270H are good cams. The Lunati Voodoo 60101's are good cams too...

what would be the best cam for my set up that will give me a lot of torque and still do good on the top end??

if i am going to change the cam, because thats whats in the block right now, i wanna get the best one possible......

i was thinking maybe a voodoo 60103? too much? would 210cc heads make this cam work better?

anybody have a good source to educate myself on how to pick cams better than posting on forums?!

190cc heads are about the biggest you want to go on a street bound 355. A 210cc head would kill your lowend completely and hurt torque up until around 4000rpm. The 60103 would be an excellent choice. It will make good power throughout the powerband. Your other choices would be the 60104 or if you want a comp cam the xe274. Any of these cams will like a 2500 stall and a 3.73 gear. I would get a shorter tire. Something around 29 inches or so. The bigger the tire the smaller the gear will act. The 700r4's 1st gear will crutch a higher rear gear ratio but I would still go with a 3.73.

Like Tiker said, with out more info it is hard to give a real guess on what it will make. Even bearing tolerances can make a huge difference. But here is a start of what would really be ideal to know:

Engine info Bore
Stroke
Factory tolerances or set up more as a race motor?
Piston (+/- CC's for valve reliefs/domes)
Electric Water pump?
Electric Fan?


Head data:
*----* Intake and Exhaust Valve size
*----* Head flow numbers (Please provide them or a link to MFG's website, I don't want to have to search for info. If these are stock heads, try to give me a casting or something)
Chamber Size
Head gasket bore and thickness
Compression ratio

Type of intake (Single plain, dual plane, again link if you can find it).
Carb or TB (Is it a vacum carb?)

Header Data:
*----* Tube Diameter
*----* Tube length to collector (this can be your best guess, but the more accurate, the better)

Cam info:Link to MFG's web page or cam card would be best but..
Duration at .050"
Total Lift and based on what rocker ratio
Intake centerline
LSA
What rocker are you using?

Blower/turbo?
I need to know size and PSI you are running.
Intercooler? Air to Air or Air to water?

Thing is though, minor things can sometimes make large changes.

Headers that scavange exhaust properly vs those that don't, too big/small of a primary, correct length and collector design.

Bearing type and tolerences can make decent difference in a motor.

Is the intake runner correct ofr the valve timing and RPM you plan on making most power...


Now I understand you you might not be trying to get in to the nitty gritty of max power etc and want a cruiser. But Combos IMO need to be thought out with your real goals in mind and not just thrown together.

and yes i plan on running headers and yeah, its just a gonna be crusier
