Emission testing Idaho is no more after July 2023
I took our car in today to have it tested as it is now 5 years old and that is when testing starts on a new car.. ( It Passed) this is how I found out that our Govenor signed the bill doing away with testing next July 2023
I had my truck tested recently after the DMV requested it and it did not pass two times in a row and so now when I take it in again and it does not pass and show I have put at least $200 of improvements towards emissions I get a one year waver to get it fixed to pass.. My perdiciment is this .. I have to have it taken in for testing by June 8th of this year and if it does not pass that makes me short about a month of making it to next July when all testing is overwith.. by the law ,,the DMV can turn down my registration of my truck with the state and make me fix the truck ,,or.get rid of the truck or never register it again,,,,to keep the truck will cost then 6% of its value .to reregister... I got to hope that they will be lenient with me beings it is so close to July of 2023;; This is follow up from a previous posting as I now know what I have to deal with ,

yearly emissions and to an extent safety inspections are just an extra tax. i never did it but there was always a "guy" with a shop who would find a way to pass. sometimes he was so confident it would pass he didnt even hook up the machine! thats a skill i will never have.

Ask for an extension/ temporary registration. They are usually good for 90 days. That would put you past the July date.

Good idea ,, After I get it tested this June and if it doesnt pass I will call the DMV and ask to talk to some one higher up and find out just how they go about cancelling my registration .

I don't think cancellation will get you out of the woods. You really should talk to someone knowledgeable there in Idaho. I'm just spit ballin' what could work in California. I bought a car many years ago to cannibalize and then just let it sit, and put it on a Non-Operational status. I let a guy take the hulk for further stripping of parts 6 years ago. It'll eventually fall out of the system.
