Re: Gas Prices?

My company burned 75,000 gallons of offroad diesel last year and probably used more than on road than that.

150,000 gal X $3 is $450,000 per year that we have to find someplace. If it keeps going up the number is going to get unbearable.

This is a pretty big deal to me.

Re: Gas Prices?

I've been biting my tongue and avoiding the subject. Here it goes... it's been as high as $4.89 around here, today it's $4.81.

I've been using E20 in the company van, it's $4.09. At the same station, E85 is $2.99, seems like a good solution for commuters vs. giving oil companies more money.

Re: Gas Prices?

Per EPA data, E85 in a 22 5.3L Silverado yields 27% less range per tank than straight gas (and 29% less mileage in city driving). That would make the true savings from E85 relatively minimal unless it dips appreciably below 30% that of ethanol free.

Re: Gas Prices?

I think ethanol blend gas is less about holding prices down and more about making gas go further. Water'd down so to speak.
I have read where a guy builds an engine with using E85 in mind and get lots of hp out of it with high compression and such. Still the alcohol has it's drawbacks.

Re: Gas Prices?

Agree that was the original intent with an ethanol blend. The current admin though has made an emergency regulatory change with ethanol blends specifically to address the current crisis in fuel costs.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I'm speaking from real world experience.
I work for a large HVAC contractor. We have a very large fleet of vehicles. I've used E85 in our 2500 HD delivery trucks with 6.0 and only seen a 1 mpg difference. It went from 10 to 9 mpg. In my Transit service van, I've seen no difference in mpg when using E20. Everything around here is E10 already to begin with. In my wife's Expedition, we see about a 2 mpg difference with E85.

When you crunch the numbers, the savings are only minimal, but there is still a savings. I guess it's more of a principle thing.

So, let me get this right? The President who says, "If you don't like high fuel prices, buy an electric car" because green something. Then they by-pass a regulation that is there because of smog? How does that work?

We don't have the 20% stuff here, yet anyway. Sheetz locations around town are selling a 15% version called 88 octane. They are the only ones I know about, so far anyway.
I haven't tried it yet, but with the recent jump to $4.49, I might give it a test.

There’s so VERY much we can’t say here, to keep from dragging the the subject through political poop....

It WILL get better!, when?

The ethanol in gasoline is from corn. BUT, the ethanol is heavily subsidized by the government. Has been this way since day 1.

Most electricity is generated from natural gas or coal fired plants.

So your ‘Lectric car is powered by, essentially another NON renewable energy source, just NOT gasoline....big whoop!

I love when I read or hear the “know it all’s” talking about “ dirty” oil.

Folks are NOT going to stand pat much longer for the way that things have been going!!!

Re: Gas Prices?

Gas took a $0.20 jump last night to $4.15 for 87 octane corn juice. Guess I should feel lucky to be living in the "fly over country" here in the mid-west. I know prices are much higher on the west coast and so many other areas. Still this whole thing sucks, so glad to be retired and not doing a 75 mile round trip commute every day. These higher prices cause everything we use to cost more and more.

Re: Gas Prices?

$6.49 for diesel today. I put in 100 bucks. I went from a quarter tank to half a tank.

These fuel prices are going to kill the economy. The price of everything is going up.

Re: Gas Prices?

This whole ethanol thing is a mess anyway. Just research how much corn gets used in your state just to feed ethanol plants. In our state 2 of the largest ethanol plants aren't evening running at 30% capacity. They pretty much were shut down during covid to produce sanitizer and the claim for the low production currently is staffing. But if you talk to people that work there, that isn't the case.

We pretty much have ethanol blend, or premium at most stations here. 88 is $4.38 and diesel was $5.45 this morning. A trucker I know was out east yesterday and had to pay $7.19 at a truck stop. This hurts us on both ends because we are the ones paying for the high cost at the pump and at the super market. Just wait to see the prices after Memorial Day.

They always have an excuse. But the price never goes back down after whatever "crisis' that they claim drove prices up is over. Maybe a nickel or a dime to shut everyone up.

The oil company's must have taken their Viagra. Because nothing's going down anytime soon. Except all of our bank accounts.

Re: Gas Prices?

Up another nickel over nite, $4.20 for 87 octane corn squeezins. Not sure how much longer Mr. & Mrs. America can handle these prices. Ridiculous is a mild term to address the situation.

He doesn’t even know what the hell he is saying most days. My 5 year old learning to read makes more sense than he does.

None of this is on accident, the high prices are 100% deliberate. It’s been proven that the correct policies will drive the prices down. Weak US leadership only emboldens the rest of the worlds producers to cut production because they know full well they will get away with it, as well as the fact our own production has been artificially cut thru regulation. This is all being done as degrowth measures to stifle and weaken the US from within. It’s not hard to see if you know what you are looking at. It’s not the Oil companies that are to blame. We can’t set our own prices. We get paid based on the supply/demand market. We don’t need the rest of the worlds oil. We have what we need right here below us. Like I said NONE of this is accidental-that’s coming for the millionth time, from someone in the oil and industry.

Re: Gas Prices?

and to make it even better, the tards that run the state of maryland passed a law a few years back to tie inflation to the fuel tax increases every year so effective July 1st we get an 18% increase in our already high fuel tax. Governor is calling on legislature to kill it and they refuse to (dem super majority of course) Can't say what I really want to for fear of black suits knocking lol.

How much do you pay in taxes for gas there?

Here it is $0.564 total. 38 from the state and 18.4 from the feds.

Oddly enough, gas is down here $2.29, right before the holiday weekend?

Right now I believe it is 36 cents but slated to go to 43 cents july 1st just for state taxes. I assume federal is the same for all 50?

Man if it is $2.29 I am bringing a tanker to OH lol I paid $4.38 at Sams club today which is usually about 7-10 cents per gallon cheaper than gas stations. It is only worth me stopping there if I am already on that side of town though.
