93 Suburban trip meter not working

I just bought a 1993 Suburban and the odometer works but the trip meter doesn't move. I've seen on line where there is a spring that connects them that may be broken. Is this the most likely culprit? Any other thoughts? Before I remove it for repair, is this spring available or do I have to search a junkyard?

Thanks.

I have never had one go out on me, but hopefully someone here that repairs them or had it done will know.

If I remember correctly there is a wheel that connects them and it's geared. You have to pull the whole dash cluster apart to get to it though.

Thanks for the replies. It would be nice if I know ahead of time the problem, but I may just have to remove it and see what's broken.

Re: 93 Suburban trip meter not working

The plastic gear rides on a pin that has a slot on the end. A small Z-shaped piece of metal connects to the odo assembly. That slot may be broken or that Z-shape may be dislodged. You might be able to find pieces from another cluster that will work. The odo assembly is similar in the old and newer gauge clusters whereas the other parts are not interchangeable like the gauges.

Speedo/ Odo assembly. The newer gauge clusters are similar in this area and some of the parts may be interchangeable.

Thanks so much for information and pic, I really appreciate it. I checked one local junkyard Friday but they didn’t have anything that I could use. I’ll keep searching.
