1969 C10 Build

THis is my 69 C10 build. I typically restore cars but have always wanted a 67-72 C10. I bought this one a while back now so just starting to post the progress. It was semi started but was a patina build. Lowering kit, disc brake conversion, wheels, trim etc. All the drive train redone. The guy added the 71-72 grille which I always liked. My dad had a 72 when I was young and always liked the truck so it has the look I like. Started full resto will start adding pics.

1969 C10 Build

I took the frame down and blasted it. Turned out decent. Added new trailing arms and bushings old ones were shot.

Everything repaired and then sandblasted or stripped down. I forgot to get a pic of the bottom at this point but blasted as well.

Those carrier bearings are prone to failure.
Even brand new ones.
And a 2-piece driveshaft is normally in a long bed truck, but I have seen them in a shortbed like yours before.
Most switch to a 1-piece.
Less u-joints and eliminates problems with that carrier bearing.
Especially in high horsepower applications.

Basically where I am at now. The frame is done and I can get back to blocking. I seam sealed inside as well. I plan on hanging the doors this weekend again and confirming everything while I block and prime again. So far a few small dings and dents but fairly straight. I plan on adding the trim for the roof and having the roof white. Might do the lower trim as well so its white below. I like the way it breaks it up. Already have new bed floor and rear tubs. I have fixed and have blocked one bed side a few times as well but need to get the other one done yet.

Interesting. It appears to be original and the guy I bought it from pretty much took the stock truck and lowered it so probably is. I can always switch later I suppose. Thanks for the knowledge.

For sure. I used to do this for people but as you say the timelines and constant changes drove me away. I only do it as a hobby now. Engineer by daily trade but have been doing restorations since I was in my early 20's. It can be fun with no expectations.

I was able to assemble the box this weekend pretty cool seeing it back together. Starting to look like a truck a bit. All new floor, driver side and tubs.

In my long bed I've replaced two in 33 years and >50K miles. And both were done because the rubber seal was cracked. So I wouldn't spend money to convert unless you do have problems.

If you did install a new bearing, make sure the u-joints are properly "phased". I can't remember offhand how to do it, but it's in the service manual and maybe even in a Haynes manual.

Thanks for the compliments.

I was originally going green but unfortunatly my dad passed away during this build and when I was little growing up he had a 72 custom that was all black so I decided to dedicate this to his memory in a small way. That truck he had when I remember back had a built small block and was pretty fast and he used to scare the crap out of me with it. I have fond memories of it. I kept the motor green in this to hint at its original color. I always loved the two tone and had planned that either way.

I thought about putting the grille back but since I have a love of the 71/72 front end I will keep it I think. I probably wont keep the truck I tend to want to do the next project as soon as the last one is done but who knows. My dad always enjoyed watching me build the next project too.
