I need some help guys like urgently

Well long story short
my neighbor came over and touched my air cleaner
then i remembered i needed to check where i had a air leak
once i took off my air cleaner i saw
gas dripping from the gas line(truck on) to carb inlet
I turned the truck off
and took it off
replace the filter that was in the carb
put some Teflon tape on the treads and put it back on
Well it still was leaking bad
took it off and looked in the carb to look at the treads
and saw that they were stripped
its a rochester 4bbl
what can i do to fix this
i don't really have money to buy a new carb
i found out my carb was leaking like a hour ago
What can i do guys?
can i just use a tap and dye set and tap the treads again
or should i get some of that jb weld and use that???
I hate that everything always happens at the last minute
and i work tomorrow at 7

Helicoil may be the fix you are looking for.

Something like this is what you need; http://gesslerheadporting.com/gessle...e!OpenDocument

Verify if your's is 7/8 or 1" diameter, They have both sizes with different filter lengths. Anything less is a crap shoot.....

Re: I need some help guys like urgently

i have never seen those things restrorob put up but that looks like the easiest fix for your situation. a helicoil isnt gonna fix your problem.

any ideas i have are risky at best i personally would get the part in the link. its tempting to order one for my carb to have on hand in my jet kit box just in case.

I've used them a couple times in the past without issue, You can likely find them at your local parts supplier as well.....

Re: I need some help guys like urgently

fuel eats teflon tape, thread sealer is what you want to use with fuel. I was using an AN -6 fitting on my qjet and had a leaking problem too. I had stripped threads also. I ended up using JB Weld on the threads. Have not leaked in 2+ years. I use an inline filter (actually 2) cause i knew over time of changing the on-carb filter will kill the threads.

Because you're short on time, I'll second restorob's suggestion of a self-tapping fuel inlet fitting.

The proper way would be to Heli-coil it, but you may not find someone in your town/city who stocks the size and style needed for a Quadrajet.

Re: I need some help guys like urgently

Check your local parts store, seems I remember seeing one of those self tapping doodads in the help section. Ask the parts guy, maybe you'll get lucky and get one that actually knows something.

Re: I need some help guys like urgently

Well went looking for that self tapping fitting nobody has it
Not autozone oreilys, advanced or other auto part stores
I'm just going to have to jb weld it for now I guess
Any certain way on applying it?
Should I apply on the fitting and the inside of the carb?
Once I have it screwed all the way in do I apply some on the outside?

Re: I need some help guys like urgently

i applied it to the threads. When you install it will ooze out. All i did after that was clean it up a bit with my finger. to make sure it was all around the fitting, kinda like using caulking.

Re: I need some help guys like urgently

DarkReaper79 why did you use to filters?
Is it to keep the pressure down?
My truck is not turning on I think its getting to much gas now
How it use to have two filters, the one in the carb and a inline filter
But now it only has the inline filter
Do yall think that's the problem

Re: I need some help guys like urgently

i used a filter before the electric pump and one before the carb. If yours is getting too much fuel you need to use a regulator. What fuel pump are you using?

http://s1105.photobucket.com/albums/...=VIDEO0045.mp4

This is what it is doing now
do you think that is has more pressure now since i took out one of the filters?
or does the carb need to be readjusted?

Re: I need some help guys like urgently

It looks like it got some trash in it and the needle seat is stuck open, flooding it.

Re: I need some help guys like urgently

it is a stock fuel pump
how is the easiest way to clean the needle with out taking the carb apart possibly?
(could i blow some compressed air in their maybe dislodge it?)
I was really hoping that i could just slap another inline filter and that would fix it
(maybe reduced the pressure)(do i have to adjust the carb now how it dosent have one filter, maybe its trying to suck it all in?)

forgot to put this in the video
The first time i try to crank the engine over im pushing the gas
(if i hold the gas down and crank it it will turn on but sounds horrible and dies)
The second time im just turning the key

Re: I need some help guys like urgently

You could try blowing a little air in it, I would spray some some carb cleaner in it, you could also tap on the front of the carb, if this doesn't work you'll have to take it apart. If you have a stock fuel pump there should be no need to regulate pressure, it's fine, you just have carb issues. Good luck.

No, use the aerosol carb cleaner with the straw thingie and spray in the fuel inlet, you might get lucky. If not the least is going to be a kit.

Re: I need some help guys like urgently

Well its working now
I added a foot of gas line and a second filter and it still dis the same thing
Well my neighbor came over and
Un screwed the little gas fitting that goes into the bigger gas fitting on the carb the one I welded on their t(because the threads had stripped)
Stuck a screwdriver thru the hole in their like 3 times
Screwed it back in and told me to try turning it on, push on the gas twice
Vroom truck started and sounded good
Maybe some of that quicksteel I had used topped it a little bit
We left the truck running for like 15 minutes so I can burn out what ever was in their

I just have 2 questions now
My carb was smoking a little bit is that normal? I was thinking it was just burning up all that small stuff and burning up what ever carb cleaner I sprayed in their?

How do you adjust theses carbs I had moved the screws thinking that would fix it, now it is idling high, it has two screws one on the left and one on the right

Re: I need some help guys like urgently

Be aware that the fitting in question does NOT seal on the threads, It seals on the nylon gasket between the fitting and the Carb. make sure the gasket it not cracked or split.

Often when removing and re installing the fitting the Carb gets a little dirt through , into the needle and seat.

While the engine is running Lightly and I mean Lightly tap on the front half of the Carb until it stops. If that doesn't work try the following.

Another tip with Carb flooding is to vise grip the suction line down at the fuel pump, Start the engine , Let it run out of fuel until it stalls. Remove the vise grips , restart the engine the quick rush of fuel back into the Carb Usually flushes out the dirt.

Re: I need some help guys like urgently

What about the little bit of white smoke that smokes out the carb
after like 30 minutes on
When you turn the truck off

Is it coughing back through the Carb? or just smoking through the inlet?

Could be a little fuel bleeding over from the Carb needle and seat.

Might be a little oil bypassing the valve guides in the cylinder heads .
If its running OK and only smokes after hot start up, probably OK to run.

If it smokes ALL the time that's a whole different situation.
