Re: My Project 56Chevy1300
55dude, do you know what years the 800 model series covers? I am not 100% sure what year of Trans Am my subframe came from...I think somewhere between 70 and 77. Thanks.

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300
Yeah, I agree with 55dude. How often do you weave through the chicanes of Edmonton at 70 miles an hour anyways. Put in an inexpensive, standard ratio box and keep an eye out for the quick ratio like the one thats damaged. At least they change out easily. Chances are you won't really notice a difference in normal driving. Oh yeah, I forgot....who wants to drive normal!

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300
Does anyone know if these suspension parts that I bought from Classic Performance Parts can be install directly or do they need to be painted first? Thanks.

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300
I got mine from PST but they looked the same. You want to paint them, I used cast iron colored engine enamel and they it didn't really change the color they were.

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300
Not much progress to report...I ran out of both oxygen and acetylene on my cutting torch and in between I had to clean out the garage...did find time to cut the driver's side air bag cut out.

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300
I'll do that trigger!
So I have a question...do I really have to paint all of these darn components like Jebb has suggested? Sucks if I do. |

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300
you realy should paint first, it will pay off in the end,de-grease them first, scotchbrite them, then POR 15....and they will look great!

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300
I found a photo on sportruck.com (below). Im going to mount the shocks similiar to the ones in the pic so I have some fabbing to do.
I hope it sits close to the floor but I have stock spindles so we'll see -- I may have to go with drop spindles. |

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300
What a shame if it does! Mine is seeing all of it's trailor time now. Once it's under it's own power it will be a daily driver.

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300
the only trailer mine will see will be behind it, not under it...it seems some of these guys get confused on how to hook up a truck to a trailer.

Hats off! Awesome job! I can't wait to start mine but looks like your job will outshine mine. You made it look easy but I know it isn't! More pics are better.

Re: My Project 56Chevy1300
Thanks...I've been a little stalled lately because since I don't know the exact year of the subframe, I've had a difficult time ordering parts. I ordered a new set of upper control arm shafts that didn't fit properly.
