67 C10 door locks

I just picked up a 67 C10. The keys in the doors are acting a little funny. The driver side will only unlock it will not lock. And the passenger side will not unlock but it will lock. Is this a common problem?

Re: 67 C10 door locks

Can you lock and unlock both doors with the lock knob? Both mine were froze up when I got my 67.

If you can move the lock knob up and down to lock/unlock it’s gotta be in the keyed part.

Have you been trying it with the doors closed or open? I wouldn't call it common, but there can be a problem with the spring cover coming loose on the inside of the lock and only allowing the cylinder to turn one direction, or not turning at all.

I have disassembled quite a few of them and re-staked the spring cover which fixes it.

The first thing I would recommend is to roll the window down and with a good strong flashlight you can see the lock and latch mechanism by looking down inside the door at the back of the glass. Spray some PB blaster or other good penetrating oil on the lock & latch down through that opening and see what that does.

I've been trying it with the doors shut. I did spray a good penetrating oil down inside. I took off the lock knobs and sprayed it straight down in the hole. I haven't tried to roll down the window and look down that way though I'll have to give that a shot. Thanks

Doing it that way will lube the whole latch mechanism. let us know what happens.

Re: 67 C10 door locks

Okay with the door open it locks and unlocks fine. But the minute I shut the door it will only unlock. I looked down the window channel and everything seems to be moving around okay but I think I'm going to have to pull the door panel off

If you have lubed the lock and latch assembly as I mentioned above, try pushing in on the door when you turn the key to lock it.

yes you are suppose to get in on the driver side and exit on the passenger side. Think safety.

That's funny! I was going to say "sounds like they work as designed. enter driver side and exit passenger", but figured he might not feel like joking until he got it figured out.

That means one of two things. The latch is worn out or you need to move your striker plate out about 1/16 of an inch. If you move the striker plate out mark around it with a fine felt tip marker first and don't let it move up or down, just out.

Only adjusted the striker plate and it didn't seem to make any difference. I still have to slightly push in on the door and then it will lock. But thanks for the advice though cuz I'm very open.

How new are the door rubbers? Sometimes it may act up like that till the rubbers get worked in.
