Project 85 C10

So over the weekend, I traded my buddy my running, driving 1993 Toyota 4x4for his 85 C10 which is in pieces. It was originally red, and had been painted green sometime in the past. The reason it is apart is that we have been tinkering on it as time and money allowed. I'm not sure of what trim level it is or what options it has, I basically traded him blindly. I know he drove it home when he bought it, but I've never heard it run. Here's what I DO know.

1985 C10 2wd swb. It has a Jasper reman engine, with less than 12,000miles. Rebuilt transmission(not sure if th350 or 400), newly installed 3/4 Belltech lowering kit, 20" wheels(unsure of brand) black with polished lip. New intake, headers, flowmasters(none installed yet). It also has saddle tanks. Im pretty sure theres other parts I'm not remembering right now, but I'll update after all the stuff is in hand where I can see what I have. Also he had bought Honda Sunset Orange Pearl paint thats coming with it. I'm not sure if I'll use that on this one or maybe my 69.

And yes I know, pics, pics, pics. i promise to get some soon.

Re: Project 85 C10

last night, chad and i installed long tube headers, flowmaster and 2.5" piping. the truck came with block huggers that we tried to install, but they hit the engine mounts, so a used set of longtubes that we picked up cheap became the header of choice. the exhuast we got was made for this model truck, but for a lwb, so modifications were necessary. also, this truck has a single exhaust transmission crossmember, so a little cutting and welding was in order. btw, it sounds awesome. im gonna load pics then add them here. i'll try to get some video of it running so you guys can hear how it sounds.

tonite, we took the rear sliding glass out only to find rust. took the wiper cowl off to prep, cleaned the inside of the truck, mixed some paint and sprayed the cowl. now we have decided that chad is going to sell the toyota, and buy this truck back from me, bc he is really excited about how the truck is coming along. sadly, more work has been done to this truck in the last week than the past 2 years. that being said, the paint scheme has changed a bit. the plans are as follows: hot rod satin black body, with gloss black wheels and bumpers. we are shaving the tail lights, and plan to incorporate some led tails in the rear bumper. we may also put some fogs in the front bumper.

Re: Project 85 C10

truck on the lift (i will never work on the ground again)

block huggers and stock

all of the exhaust stuff

chad reconnecting the starter after i installed the right side longtube

me welding exhaust

truck in the air

me cutting exhaust with a portaband

tacking the right side together

dual exhaust installed. we are stopping here with it until we get the bed to the shop, so we can see where we want to go with it. we may just leave it here and put on turn downs. any suggestions? will this be too loud inside the truck?

chad washing the wiper cowl in preparation for paint

rust is the devil

chad mixing paint

spraying the wiper cowl

air cleaner

both pieces drying. i'll take some more pics in the morning after the paint has had time to dry. this shouldnt be FLAT black, it should have a little shine to it, but not be glossy....keeping my fingers crossed that it turns out nice.

Re: Project 85 C10

here is a pic of the wiper cowl after the paint dried.

friday night we welded up all the holes in the cab, from moulding and such

chad DA'd the whole cab, so we could see what we needed to fix.

saturday we got the bed up to the shop, notched the bed support to clear the shackles, and got the bed sitting on the truck. here is the notches cut so the shackles would clear

we also got the front windshield out

PO had a gooseneck hitch installed , so theres a 5" hole in the bed that im gonna have to fix.

Re: Project 85 C10

today we filled the holes in the bedsides, from the PO having tie downs mounted on the OUTSIDE of the bed. fixed some damage at the read lower corner of the bedsides, shaved the taillights, and DA'd the bedsides.

Re: Project 85 C10

i forgot to mention, that on saturday we picked up a 79 LWB farm truck for parts. we scored a good front windshield, and solid rear glass, a dash panel that is in very good condition, a hitch and some door panels.

Re: Project 85 C10

last night, we laid down body filler over the taillight fillers. cheesegrater and some blocking later, and they are taking shape nicely.

tonight we didnt do much. we are both about worn out from this breakneck pace. here we are still testing the amount of activator in the paint. we are trying for a little flatter color than the first test run came out. i'll know tomorrow morning if we got it right.
