Accelerator pedal assemblies

Anyone use later model cable operated C10 gas pedal assemblies in their trucks? I have a '79 pedal assembly, throttle cable and brackets and feel the response will be better and safer than the rod but worry about where to mount it on the firewall and relation to the floorboard. Already using the Q-jet from the '79 so everything matches in the engine bay.
Found someone did something similar with a '72 pedal assembly in a '60 but when mocking mine up I worry I dont have the full throttle movement to get to WOT before the pedal hits the floor.

Re: Accelerator pedal assemblies

I have one in mine from a '79 C20. Do a search for markeb01, he did a great thread on installing one. It does work pretty well, and no issues going WOT. Just gotta pay attention as you install, and plan for any floor mat, sound deadening, or carpet when installing.

Re: Accelerator pedal assemblies

I used the accelerator assembly and cable from a 71 in my 66. Works beautifully. Just remember to lube the cable so it doesn't get sticky.

Re: Accelerator pedal assemblies

thanks for the replies. I read through Markeb01 build thread and it is pretty clear. I think I am simply confusing myself and should had inspected the '79 assembly while in that truck closer before removal. after some thought my guess is the pedal at rest (no throttle) should basically hang from the firewall mounting point and not be resting on the floor. Sound right? and then as I depress finally reaching WOT the pedal and pedal rod finally come into contact with the floor/ firewall at WOT to limit the strain on the throttle cable assembly by over extending.

Re: Accelerator pedal assemblies

Yes that is correct. If it is resting on the floor when not in use, either the mount needs to move farther up the firewall, the pedal mechanism needs to be reshaped, or the pivot point that attaches to the firewall needs to be spaced farther away from the firewall to provide more travel. I've seen a variety of these overhead cable pedal mechanisms adapted, but some fit better while others require more modification to function properly.

Re: Accelerator pedal assemblies

I used a cable/pedal assembly from an 80's ish chevy . . found it at pick n pull.

The pedal and cable setup is so similar as to not bear mentioning for pretty much anything from the mid 70's to late 80's

I got my inspiration for it from here:
