Car Shows are no longer free... but it's still worth the cost.

There was a time when going to trucks shows was fairly inexpensive but now ... at 10-12 mpg it can become costly but... what isn't now a days. So I fill up my truck and go to the car shows and just have fun.

I wasn’t able to take the Circuit Rider to the show last month as I was out of state, so Nathan took it and brought home a trophy.

Local car shows around don't charge admission for the show cars/trucks but do ask for a food shelf donation.

I noticed the car shows near here are cheaper than anywhere in the country

Re: Car Shows are no longer free... but it's still worth the cost.

Most car shows here in GA were $20 bucks with the majority of them being for some sort of charity, but over the past year, the majority of the shows I've seen have gone up to $25, $30, or more depending on how many days.

There's also been a couple new cruise-ins pop up that don't have a cost or ask for a small donation of whatever you're willing to give. Those are my favorite to have fun at and enjoy conversation at.

I catch your drift on cost going up being cost of getting there. I guess they were never free, even when gas was cheap. What bothers me right now is just since 4th of July weekend I've come to realize the Liberty Rods show, a local club show drawing over 300 street rods was the weekend before. I never even thought about it until this week. My whole spring and summer used to exist from event to event like clockwork before Covid. I never needed a calendar, it was in my blood. I am way off track now. The day before is a great somewhat closed party by the local chapter of AMCA (Antique Motorcycle Club of America) at a friend's place. The best party of the year for me. Live band, antique American iron, along a creek, in a colonial era glassworks town. Very neat and I missed it again!

Re: Car Shows are no longer free... but it's still worth the cost.

I was just reading my latest issue club magazine, Double Clutch, that the club's events insurance are canceling on expiration date. They worked quickly to get a new carrier although at nearly double the rate.
They also mention other clubs to check with their insurance companies so not to get blindsided. Most shows are for good cause, and we all need to keep the hobby/disease going to encourage others, definitely one increase I won't mine paying,..the gas prices...well you all know that's another hot pile of horse chit.

This is true but with gas in the mid $4 price range ... its much more obvious

Re: Car Shows are no longer free... but it's still worth the cost.

Every August in Bowling Green Ky, they host the Tri Five Nats. I have pulled my Scotty trailer over there (159 miles), one way, every year they have had it with the exception of year 1. With fuel prices as they are, and me getting 8-10 mpg pulling a camper, it looks like this year is going to be rough on the pocket book. But, that said, I'm still planning on going. I just have to prioritize the ones I take the cars or truck to. The grounds will still be full, the food and fellowship will be the same, the cars and trucks will still be great to see, and everybody will grumble about the price of gas for a moment and move on. American spirit is harder to kill than most anything else that I know of.

Re: Car Shows are no longer free... but it's still worth the cost.

I’m right near Newport Tennessee, and we have two VERY GOOD Car shows in the City park. One is an organization for Cancer Awareness, and the other is the Moonshiners Run. Both have been going for 30+ years. Both don’t charge any admission for spectators. $20 if you’re entering a vehicle. The Park is PERFECT for shows because of the amount of shade, and all the on-site amenities.
Another nice aspect is that as large as these shows are, the entry vehicles are all “Everyday People” owned (no big name high dollar Dream Machines”)
There’s a few clubs that come in every year, and also individual entries.
Keep in mind I’m only 15 miles from all the shows in the Pigeon Forge area, and I prefer these two shows and a couple over in Maggie Valley NC over ANY of the big name shows.
On a side note though, I do go to both Rod Runs, because the vendors usually have awesome deals on parts and tools.
