Real barn find not a truck 67 Corvette

Came across this today when I had my Chevelle out . Friend I bought the fender from had this that they pulled out of a barn . Owner is not sure if he will sell it as of yet . But he’s an elderly man who has a couple of new vettes . Back story he bought it new drove it till he and his wife had kids . He put it away and never touched it again . The only reason he moved it was his barn was ready to collapse . My friend doesn’t think he will be able to swing the price if one ever comes . Told him I’m interested if he’s not . I’m sure it will be high 5 figure territory possibly 6 . If he does sell

The good
427 tri power has a single on it now but he has the original setup
30k miles
4spd
Sidepipes
Original paint and interior

The bad
Engine is locked up as are the wheels
Engine may have froze as there is no fluid in the rad .
Paint is cracked in a few places as well as fiberglass .

tri power big block with numbers matching, if he is aware of values you are in "house price" territory. very nice find! you should buy it even if its top of the market because they didnt make many and they arent making any more.

Very nice car there, it would take alot to get it to it's former glory. But I think it would be worth it.

Re: Real barn find not a truck 67 Corvette

I know restored ones bring 250k plus but if you buy it at 100k you’d need to put 100k if not more into it to get it to that level . Told my friend if you or I get it I would just do the mechanical work and leave the body as is

Owner has two newer Corvettes so he knows it’s value

That’s absolutely true. They are still around, luck is the major part of the equation as to acquiring them when they do come up.

Beautiful car.

Re: Real barn find not a truck 67 Corvette

It would take a significant hit if the motor block is damaged.
Still a nice car. Ti-power and side-pipes. And a very nice color combination.
Honestly, it may be more valuable as a survivor.
They are only judged on originality not condition.
The carpet, yup it's shot. Was it the carpet in the Corvette when new? If so, it gets all the points.
Honestly the survivors are rarer than the restored care and the price reflects it.
Cheers

Just WOW! comes to mind. Have never owned a 'Vette, would love to but not in the cards for me. '67 BBC 427 tri-power, 4 speed! It just doesn't get ANY better than that. Outstanding find how ever it turns out.

Just spitballing here of course, but if it’s been in that shed all this time, I bet the engine can be saved. Just because there’s no coolant doesn’t necessarily mean it’s cracked. My IROC sat for 20 years and was almost 2 gallons low. I didn’t change a single thing, pump, hoses, nothing, and have driven it almost a thousand miles with no leaks. It’s Pretty likely that there’s just some condensate rust in the cylinders holding the rings up. As long as it didn’t develop an internal cold water leak I bet that block is fine.

Well as long as you threw your hat in the ring let the guy chew on the price for a while. You never know. He may throw a decent price at you. It'll still be a chunk of change but that car is worth it.

I'm with Tyler. Maybe I'm an optimist but I think that motor may be salvageable with some TLC. It's been stored indoors all these years.

Re: Real barn find not a truck 67 Corvette

Why would the block crack unless it had no coolant in the water jacket. why would the owner have parked it with no coolant? We know the rest of the story. Why couldn't the owner tell us that?

Re: Real barn find not a truck 67 Corvette

On a different note, when I worked at the paper mill about the year 2005 or so, a co-worker in maintenance had a light blue one, 427 4 speed.
After work one day we went fir a ride. He beat on it pretty good, and it was a thrill. After that, we got in his new z06. No comparison to me. The new one would run off and hide from it, but old school felt so much better. He sold the 67 at some point for 65k.

Re: Real barn find not a truck 67 Corvette

I wouldn't think the block is cracked , it was common practice to drain engines of coolant when in storage , engine don't crack when empty only when left with less than correct amount of anti freeze , engines crack from frozen water not frozen storage .

We shall see how this goes . The owner has a 2009 vette and a 2022 he even said he probably wouldn't drive it much if it was redone . Because in stock form it really didnt handle all that nicely.

Might have to raid my 401k to buy it if he sells . I haven't touched the 401k at all .

1967 Corvette L 88 Preproduction 427 V8 Engine
1967 Corvette L 88 Preproduction 427 V8 Engine
1967 Corvette Specifications, Options, Costs, Colors, Facts, and Details
The 1967 Corvette Sting Ray sports car has some of the best-known options, specifications, costs, colors, facts, and details of any vehicle in history and deserves to be among the top 10 most famous vehicles in automotive history as well as one of the top collector vehicles in the world today.

Various reasons were behind General Motors’ decision to extend the production of the current model for one more year. One theory was that the release of the C3 had been intentionally delayed to work on the Chevrolet Camaro in 1967. In spite of what critics and enthusiasts predicted, the C2 1967 Corvette Sting Ray wasn’t actually the first of a new generation, but it was the most refined of the second-generation Corvettes.

Throughout this article, we will be discussing the 1967 Corvette Specifications and its pricing, colors, facts, and other details with accompanying photos of some of the best restored and original Corvettes.

How many 1967 Corvettes were made?
The 67 Corvette sports car was offered in two body styles. 22,940 cars were produced that year. Of that 8,504 1967 Corvette Coupes and 14,436 Corvette Stingray 1967 Convertibles were produced.

What did the 1967 Chevy Corvette cost new?
The Corvette Stingray 1967 base price was $4388.00 for the Coupe and $4,240.75 for the Convertible

Re: Real barn find not a truck 67 Corvette

There are lots of factory built cars that would beat that ol Corvette in every aspect of speed and handling. But not one of them has the rowdy fun factor of that 67. To me it would be a shame to restore it, or even baby it like it is and only take it out for shows. Treat it like they did in the 60's and early 70's, put some Cragars or other period wheel and tire combos and use it. A million years ago I worked at an auto parts store and a guy had one of those in blue, exact same drive train. He would romp on that thing leaving the store and all I could to was look at my little 63 Nova with a 6 haha.

Course if you gotta borrow from the 401 you really have to treat it like an investment. These cars are out of my league anyway lol

Re: Real barn find not a truck 67 Corvette

In '78 I could have bought a black on black (leather) '67 427 4spd Sport Coupe with the sport and luxury items for under $5,000 from my dad's friend. I had the money, I had a girlfriend who loved Vettes, but decided to pass on it. I knew back then at 22 what that car deserved and I knew full well I wasn't the one to give it. I had no garage, didn't make big money to keep it up, and I just wanted to drive it. I was not an investor. I'm still not and never will be (as if I could be )
