Exxon profits are up!

Report out today shows a new record Exxon profit for 2022 is $55.7 billion. Way up from the $45 billion profit back in that awful economic year of 2008.

Re: Exxon profits are up!

So they technically made less since a 2008 dollar is worth 1.36 in 2022 dollars .

Re: Exxon profits are up!

I'm for free enterprise and all but sheeeet! How much profit is enough? I remember when big oil annual profits were reported in the $30 billion range and I called it obscene at the time. And correct me if I'm wrong but the gov STILL subsidizes them 50 cents per gallon. And why?

Corporate welfare goes beyond free enterprise. I never expect to hear of Exxon (or Phizer) losing money. They are guaranteed to profit.

If the governments publicly stated goal is to put my business and industry out of business, I would make as much obscene profit as possible for as long as I can.

Re: Exxon profits are up!

Big oil companies aren't going anywhere. They already own other forms of alternative energy. They won't be put out of business. Actually, big oil companies rule the world. Did greed blind everyone to the fact that was happening?

I have stock in Tesla and crypto currency and I dislike electric vehicles and don't even know what crypto currency is. I still buy gas and pay cash. But those stocks make me the cash to buy the gas and a lot more.

Re: Exxon profits are up!

The government made more per gallon off every gallon of EXXON gas than EXXON did. Every refinery was charging record profits per gallon back after Biden got into office and things started going nuts. Both that and the government taxation burns me up one side and down the other.

Also, saw P66 just purchased a major mid stream natural gas company. They know where the future is headed and it's not away from the petrochemical industry anytime soon.

Yep. I picked up Tesla in March of 2020. I ain't crying but, I wish Elon would keep his mouth shut.

I am not an EV fan either. They are one-way vehicles as far as I am concerned. The time will come when people start on the Lithium mines for making too much $$$$!

And I can't even spell craptoe currency...

Re: Exxon profits are up!

Wherever our energy needs go I'm sure big oil will be there. All forms of industry are subject to changing times. They either go with it or go out. Big oil knows that better than anybody. At least they have had the benefit of all the early warnings anyone could ask for.

Re: Exxon profits are up!

I'm not a cheer leader for big oil, however I think this supposed green(electric) revolution is a bunch of bs. I agree that industries must adapt, but that generally is happening in the private sector thru innovation and gains in technology, not the government stepping in and deciding for us.

I agree but the fact of the matter is some changes just don't happen until someone makes it mandatory. Just part of the human psyche to resist change we don't like.

I figure gasoline won out over electric in the beginning on it's own merit. I figure when electric makes more sense than gasoline it will win out on it's own merit.

Re: Exxon profits are up!

When the government (BOTH SIDES) finally agree it's time to upgrade the entire electrical grid across the entire US and not just the cities Ev's could work in some capacity But forcing it on the entire public when the grid can't handle it is just wrong , The old cart before the horse thing again . Exxon profits up ? Good , Probably the only thing saving some of the 401K ?

Save the whales !

I sorta agree, the only problem is that one side (electric) has an awful large amount of help with their merit. I may be wrong, but I think the vast majority of EV's are purchased by people who are generally well off. The government gives these people $7500 to buy an EV, while people in lower economic classes sruggle to afford a used car. The whole system is corrupt. Why should my tax dollars go to some rich guy who buys an EV?

Don't forget the insurance companies!
In 2008 my rates doubled. Turns out the stock market went down so to keep their profit levels they just upped the rates. Perfectly legal.
