Crazy Prices
So I've been seeing OBS that are more expensive than square bodies? Why? I almost wish I would have kept my 1994 1500 burb.

Re: Crazy Prices
Because you’re in Cali and the truck scene out there is nuts. OBS, NBS, NNBS all have a higher premium in Cali and here in Vegas. I still own and daily drive my 1997 C1500 extended cab that I bought new. The value keeps climbing and I’m happy about that.

Re: Crazy Prices
Because they are newer?
OBS's have always been more then square's [73-87's] because they made squares so long, there are literal crap tons of them, and they've always been the cheapest gen chevy's out there. It shouldn't be a surprise

Crazy that the newest truck I own that I bought new is referred to as OBS. Guess I am old now.

Re: Crazy Prices
All this OBS jargon is Reggie Youngin bullcrap. All it does is show they weren't around for when real trucks were made. You know, the BOOBS. Same with the GMT400 crap. Are those really only the 4th generation GM Trucks?
Squarebodies are anything but cheap. Are you kidding? Now the 88-98s are falling in as classic trucks. It reaches far beyond CA. The truck craze is everywhere and it has all used truck prices higher than reasonable for use as a truck because everyone wants a pickup. You can buy a used loaded Suburban (which was more expensive new) for less than a pickup. And not just loaded ones. When I shopped for a truck in '15 ended up buying a K2500 Suburban fleet vehicle because on average, for like miles/condition, a Suburban ran about $1,500 less than comparable pickup. There is no status in an older Suburban but an old truck can be a cool custom, daily workhorse/dollar grabber, or keep around to haul firewood.

We just about gave away our Suburban It needed a lot of stuff done. And yeah, an old Suburban is just an old car, but an old pickup will always be a pickup - unless it is one of these four foot bed things and then they will be just another old car.

Re: Crazy Prices
Yeah, but an old Suburban makes for a great old truck. You have an 8' enclosed and secure bed or a crew cab with shortbed. You can even have 1/3 longbed with a second row seat for two or 2/3 longbed with one second row seat. My Suburban has more utility to it than most pickups out there sold since it's time. It also has hydroboost brakes, so a great tow vehicle
On the job this week

Just wanted to add to the confusion that "nnbs" ended in 13/14 when the gmtk2xx lineup took over

If my old Suburban had been a 3/4 ton I would have probably kept it. Worst case could have converted it to a pickup cab with a flatbed. 15" wheels suck.

Re: Crazy Prices
This is going to be a LONG post, but bear with me. It is only my opinion and very subjective. However I have owned or driven most of the trucks I am speaking about.
The dividing line between "old" and "new" was stated as 1946/1947. I believe the line is 1954/1955. That is the point where running boards and distinct fenders went by the wayside and fleetside beds became the norm. As an added note three across the bench seat became reasonably comfortable at this time. From 55 to 66 you had sleeker but garishly chromed trucks, influenced by the styling from the 50s to 60s car designs. Now we reach another era that can be divided into three seperate units. this is the era that trucks started to be equipped with the creature comforts/luxuries that we take for granted today. AC, power windows, cruise control and full gauges were optional if not standard equipment. The first unit is 67-72, of course. These trucks ushered in the times that trucks looked more car-like, but still retained the rough/tough ability to be work trucks. Now to MY favorite group of Bow Tie trucks. While from 55 to 72 the trucks were smooth sided and reasonably boxy shaped, the 73-87 trucks have earned and deserve the title "Square Body". No other truck maintained the continuity of body style as long as these trucks and I can't think of a vehicle off the top of my head except the VW Beetle that had lasted as long or longer. Here is where things get a little muddy. I agree that 88-99 is a distinct body style (OBS), but I end this era at 1995 with the demise of Throttle Body Injection. In my opinion these are the last of the trucks that were reasonably simple to work on and you had at least a chance to jerry-rig a repair to get you home. 96-99 were still what I consider working trucks, but the complexity of their components ushered in the era of more carlike vehicles than rough and tumble trucks. I will admit to not having alot of love for any trucks built in this millenium. When a reasonably outfitted truck topped 50K and 100K was not out of reach, I think the average person would cringe at the thought of using and abusing the rig like a truck was meant to be employed. Trucks today are outfitted much better than the luxury vehicles that I grew up with. Thank You for hanging with me this long! Steve

The 1960-1966 Chevy "square" pickups are my favorite, but I don't even look at that forum because it just makes me want one (again!) too much. But those front fenders were terrible rust prone and the brakes were weak. All around, it seems the 73-80 were just about the best for practical use, but really the 71/72 were just as good mechanically. I guess my "perfect pickup" would be a late 1987 k/20 or 30 with NP205 and TBI. I went and jumped off the cliff and got a 21st Century pickup, just because I was questioning the wisdom of finding a good thirty year old pickup that I would be willing to take off on a multi-state trip. I'm just not that crazy about working on stuff all the time these days. I guess time will tell if I guessed wrong. But I got about the simplest pickup that I could find. It even has hand crank windows And yeah, the crazy prices had something to do with it. I figured there wasn't much difference in price between a nearly perfect or totally rebuilt older pickup and a late model with reasonable miles.
