Auto to manual kick panel vent conversion

I've got an 86 with auto kick panel vents. I hate them and want the old style manual knob vents. Is that swap as straight forward as it seems? What years will work?

I do know the manual one are completely self contained as an assembly, so I would say that it is as straight forward as you are thinking. I have never seen how the automatic ones are assembled.

On my 75, the passenger side vent serves as the AC recirculate path. Might complicate your plans. It fed back to the fan input, not to the outside.

But the thing came out as a complete unit. Only thing to disconnect was the vacuum hose. Plastic molding even includes the place for the manual vent knob. The knob hole is plugged with a chrome disk.
