I figured I would start a build thread for this Thing after owning it for a bit over one year.
It all started in late 2019 when I was browsing the Interwebs, searching for literally nothing.
Somehow I stumbled across this forum, mainly because I owned a Squarebody C10 at that time.
I always liked the 60-63s (and 64-66s) so I just clicked a few times and found the 60-66 Craigslist Thread.
At that time I had a bit of left over budget but hadn´t planned anything.

While browsing the Craigslist thread one add gained my attention.. it was a 62 C30 Dually with an Utility Bed and some kind of Boom attached (hence the Name "Boomie").
I contacted the seller and after a few days the Truck was on its long way to Germany.

Early 2020 the Truck arrived and I towed it behind my barn. Had other builds going on first..
Now that I´m finishing my 03 Duramax, I sourced some parts for it and will soon start working on it.

Before I really tear everything apart I have some questions which are leading the whole build idea.
Rough overview on what is planned:
- Lowering the rear with a Flipkit
- Lowering the front end with Bags and 73-87 Front Axle
- Engine Swap to something cool and a bit powerful
- Transmission swap fitting the engine choice
- Redo the interior in some sort

So there is currently no 100% Plan, just some rough ideas in my mind.
Here are my first and most important questions:
- Does the 73-87 C30 Front Axle work like the 5 Lug on C10s?
- Does a 73-87 Dually rear axle work and has it any benefits?`
- Has anybody done a 6BT Cummins Swap?

I have a 62 one ton and bought a 81 c30 for a parts truck. So far I have already swapped the rearend and it was a direct bolt in. I have the front end pulled off the 81 but have not swapped it yet. From what I have read it should be a fairly easy swap. I actually bought a 12v with a 5 speed to swap into it but will probably end up selling it and going in another direction.

Thanks for the answer! I might buy the Package deal for the axles then.. is there any benefit of swapping the rear axle?

Why are you selling the 12v? I haven´t found a lot of information yet but I think its possible. I just need to know what modifications I would need, especially frame mods

The reason I swapped is I already had the parts truck and it was a better gear for driving it. Plus I would assume parts will be a lot easier to find and cheaper. The reason I am probably going to sell the Cummins is because I don’t really need a diesel plus with all that weight on the front end I would assume you would need to reinforce the frame up front. I’ll probably end up doing a 6.0 LS.

I was thinking that too.. Did you find some kind of engine mounts and what crossmembers need to be re done? Guess Trans Crossmember and possibly some firewall and trans hump cutting will be involved.

I can get the 14 Bolt in a package deal. That way I should have power brakes and rotors all around. That would help a lot if I‘m adding a Cummins

I was going to look at it the same as you would on a square body. Since you are using the front crossmember it would at least be a good way to start. I’m sure the transmission mount/crossmember would have to be made which shouldn’t be that big of a deal.

I never measured but from looking at it with the high hump tunnel it should be a close fit.

Thinking the same way like you do. I´m sure there are something to figure out but it sound pretty do able to me.
Trans choice isn´t done yet, I´d love to have a manual setup but with a normal first gear, not a super short one.

Cool truck. Those utility bed trucks are a premium.

It’s definitely doable and I don’t think it would have costed too much since I already have the truck and drivetrain. One of my biggest concerns was trying to keep the smell out of the cab with my daughter riding with me. I have a diesel tractor and hate the smell of it.

I have two newer Chevy Duramax Diesels and there is zero smell in the Cabin.. riding behind the Truck is a different story.
I think the smell depends on the exhaust routing.. I won´t do a hood stack for sure and I probably won´t do stacks at all.

Also my fuel tank will be between the bed rails and not in the cabin anymore.
I hope this will help with diesel smell too

That is going to be one very interesting build!

Is it an optical illusion or is the hood longer than a C10? Not really up on my bigger trucks.

I hope I won´t have to push too hard... from what I found out its a pretty good fit and a tight fit if using the mechanical fan

About ready to order some patch panels for the cab corners, rockers and fenders so I can start fixing this thing up soon.

- Lower Fender
- Cab Corner
- Inner Rocker
- Outer Rocker
- Inner Door Bottom
- Driver and Passenger Floor Board
- Inner Rocker with partial inner Floor Board

Ordered from TruckandCar Shop in North Batavia, CA.

Will sure take some time till things get to me but we will see..

Found an axle setup out of an ´80 C30 I bought..
Just need to start taking this thing apart soon haha
