I would have never guessed that the amount of LWB Fleetsides were that high compared to the others !

Considering these were built to be trucks and used as trucks... the long bed was the preferred option. As time marched on with extended cab and 4 door cab trucks becoming the norm, short beds are more preferred.

At the risk of restarting the old argument i mean healthy discussion about not cutting down long beds these production numbers show there were 1,353,258 1/2 ton long bed fleetsides produced from 67-72. The c20 and c30s aren't included in these totals. Looks like there should be plenty of them long beds still around. Nobody will miss a few that go under the saw eh?

Total rough add up, but there was somewhere around another 400K for the C20s/30s If you include all longbeds, longbeds as a whole outsold shorties about 3:1. Trucks were trucks. Try finding a brand new 2017 longbed regular cab now a days...

At most there's now 1,353,257 half ton long beds Muah ha ha ha ha!

Jesse. Yeah you're a whacker!
I'd like to see someone try their hand at "tipping" the front panel over like member 65standard did instead of cutting and welding. That was a great idea and no body work or paint required for that part.

This guy did a video series on how to shorten one, and he did the tipping method and I didn't really like how it came out. The beds have a subtle curve at the front that's almost impossible to recreate (put a straight edge on one and you'll see it). The other reason I went with slicing and not tipping is the inside of the bed. You 'll still have to cut and weld the inside of the bed, if you notice in the video, he lost the front inner bed bodyline and the front stake pocket because he just basically bent the inside of the bed 90* to recreate the original bend.

If you want to keep the inner bedsides correct, you have to do a lot of cutting and spot weld cutting to get it back correct on the inside, it's probably not that much different than splicing the whole side time-wise, but if you're just trying to save the outside paint, it might be worth it.

Is their noy a diffrence in the radius of the front wheelwell bottom corner? Arent the longbeds rounded and shortbeds more square? Infront of rear wheel?

Getting totally off topic, but yes, that's 100% correct on 68-72 longbeds. For some reason, GM kept the 67's square and rounded the 68-72's. I have a plan to fix mine



A very beat up 1967 longbed that had been for sale for months with no takers gave these up.

There's quite a few less than that now. There's a guy I follow on Instagram who's keeping a running tally of conversions he's done. He's up over 50 bedside conversions, and that's just from one shop. There are plenty other's doing this now as well. I was shocked when I realized just how many conversions are getting done because I don't feel like I've seen more than 30-40 of them.

On another note, I wonder just how many of these trucks are still out there. There is a good number of them here on the board, but it never fails that when I go out to a show I see a handful of trucks I've never seen before. I guess when there were over a million of them made, even if only 5% are still out there that's over 50,000 trucks still roaming around. I suppose it's not so surprising afterall that there are trucks I haven't seen before.

I saw that website showing total production of each model.

HOWEVER, I am in serious need of the total production numbers of the St. Louis Truck Assembly for C10 pickups 1972. I have been searching with little luck. Anyone have a link, please?
