Re: WHAT! I came for 1 truck. I'm not sure if I need those other 26?!!

I just finished up breakfast with my whole family
Told them a little bit about the last several days

They are starting to think I'm a little unfit too

I told them to wait for the BBQ tonight
After I get a few cocktails in me
I'll tell them the whole story

I'm afraid they might call for an intervention
But
Not for the alcohol

I had a couple of Cooper Discoverer load range E that pulled cords, they were on my 2007 GMC 3500 4x4. 5.5 years old so the manufacturer would not warranty them.
They still had lots of tread like yours do. Tire guy told me not to trust tires over 5 years old.
Most of my stuff has tires older than that!!

Re: WHAT! I came for 1 truck. I'm not sure if I need those other 26?!!

How was the story telling session last evening? I hope it wasn't a sneak intervention. Are ya still with us? (I know, it's too dang early in CA right now)

Funny how tire prices took a huge leap as their life expectancy declined. I guess whatever synthetic they went to that cuts life expectancy costs a lot more. I had tires on my '71 wreck I sold a couple years ago that I had bought in '89, no checks. My '67 project is sitting on 20 year old tires. Been sitting on those rollers since '06, never added air. My buddy has a '40 Harley with original Firestone "Gum Dippeds". That virgin rubber never cracks

Re: WHAT! I came for 1 truck. I'm not sure if I need those other 26?!!

I have 10 year old tires on my wife's 72 Malibu convertible that have great tread left but will need to be replaced before the next long trip.

Re: WHAT! I came for 1 truck. I'm not sure if I need those other 26?!!

Yea Greg and flashed
After this trip my mind has changed about tires
I would bet most of us have older tires on our truck
Many times we don't drive them enough, so the tread is always ok
So why why bother replacing them? $$$$
I wouldn't even bother most of the time cause I'm only on short jaunts nearby
But
If you plan on a long journey
It might be a good idea

My second blow out of the trip

Re: WHAT! I came for 1 truck. I'm not sure if I need those other 26?!!

I was only about 20 miles from home and driving slower
Took a turn on a shortcut road off the highway
Felt like the rear was just floating
A friend of mine has a Bussiness out there
So
Before I merged back on the highway
I flipped a ue
And posted up in his parking lot

Called my son at the shop and had me bring the jack
Tire wrench and a tire

When I pulled the tire. The sticker said it all
RAW

But we hobbled home.
A bit rougher than when we left

And I instantly cheered up
When the unloading process started

Everything went pretty good
Most people understand!
There is an addiction to everything
I told them I'm the lucky one. Mine happens to be to chevy trucks.
It could be worse. At least I'm not blowing my money on drugs
Or gambling

Uh, wait a minute. Maybe this is gambling

But when the people that just don't understand ask me
Well how many trucks do you have?

My response is always the same
"A few"
And then under my breath "to many"

Looks like a nice happy family of trucks you have there. I noticed that it has cab lights that are not on the SPID. Are they an aftermarket treatment or were those just not a spid item?

I was told when I was getting the truck from the family the gentleman wanted cab lights on his truck , nothing on lot had them in short wheel base , he had the dealer install them , the truck came with one tire holder in bed from dealer , he later had one added on other side at there shop, all service and the mr goodwrench replacement motor and everthing ed hammer Chevrolet , I stopped at dealer on my way home , it was awesome just going in there , it started in 1928 , the parts counter looked like the futureliner , polished creased type quilted aluminum , it was a great experience just going there also

Hah, I hear ya. When I was running my business with only 67-72s(5), had the '71 C/20 camper rig, 70/71/72 Blazers, '71 C/10 Suburban, '71 K/10 SWB, and '68 SWB BBC I'd get guys telling me, "You know if you sold all those old trucks you could pay cash for a new one", I would look at them and ask, "Why would I want to do that?". That would be the end of that. They probably figured I was hopeless, so gave up. They were right! Well, wrong about one thing. I could have easily bought a couple new trucks!!

Yep, all these classic vehicles out there these days and very few of them will be wearing their tires out before they need replaced. Certainly not one registered historic and played by the rules.

Hi Eric, drove the white Cheyenne to one of my baseball games. Came out after the game and drove about 10 feet before realizing something was horribly wrong. Front passenger tire was flat and now separated from the rim. Towed to to my friends gas station who remounted it for $15. He said, your tires have plenty of tread but the sidewalls are shot from age. So I bought 4 coopers for $680 including mounting and balancing. I'm sure one tire on my wife's BMW would probably be more than that.

Anyway, glad you got home safe, thanks for sharing the trip with us.

Rob
