Anyone using an "Old Air" A/C system? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I've installed three Vintage Air systems in different vehicles over the years, but am considering Old Air to replace the 22 year old cable-actuated V/A system in my 69 C10. The 1998 V/A units were pretty crude, with air doors that didn't seal well and a blower setup that pushed most of the air to the drivers side vent, and to the left side of the center vent.

However, one of the things I just found out about the Old Air system is it doesn't have floor vents. If you are using one of these systems, how do you get heat to the floor?

I have an Old Air Products kit in my '52 truck and it works well. Heat is selectable between defrost vents and normal vents...no option to direct heat to floor. I'm in Texas...heat is not the primary concern.

I'm running the Old Air Hurricane system, I have nothing but good things to say about it. Vents are defrost and mid-dash (just under the dash really) but you can easily install a Y connector on one of the ducts to route vents just about anywhere you want. I live in a cold coastal area and run my heater a lot but found I never needed floor vents.

Old Air is only 40 minutes from my house, so I'll have to check out that Y connector. The truck is currently in Texas for me to do a few projects on. But it will eventually go back to my son in western New Jersey where it can get very cold. However, he would only use it as a sunny day, short trip, weekend driver. And his main concern is A/C.

I also have the Old Air system with electronic controls. There's a servo motor outside the firewall for shutting off the hot water to the cab and a similar servo that works the blend door between the dash and defrost vents. It works well and the glovebox is usable. When I needed more heat to the feet, I just disconnected one of the center dash vents with the hose directed at my feet. Maybe one day I'll add another vent or two directed at the footwells.

If you are using one of these systems, how do you get heat to the floor? __________________ Mike 1969 C10 LWB -- owned for 34 years. 350/TH350, 3.08 posi, 1st Gen Vintage Air, AAW wiring harness, 5-lug conversion, 1985 spindles and brakes. 1982 C10 SWB -- sold 1981 C10 Silverado LWB -- sold, but wish I still had it! 1969 C10 (not the current one) that I bought in the early 1980s. Paid $1200; sold for $1500 a few years later. Just a hint at the appreciation that was coming. Retired as a factory automation products salesman. Worked part-time over the years for an engine builder and a classic car repair shop. Member here for 23 years! This is the very first car/truck Internet forum I joined.
