Camaro
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a4...aro-dead-2024/
While I've always had mustangs I've had Camaros and a challenger too. With the competition it makes them all better. |

Re: Camaro
I've always loved them and had a ton of them. Only 2 of them were post 69. Of course back in the 70s you could pick one up for next to nothing. I never thought as much of the 2010 and up, to me, the design didn't capture the 1st gen as much as the newer mustangs and challengers. To each theur own.

Re: Camaro
I think I paid $1400 for my '69 RS with a 327 and a four speed. It had gauges, power steering and a radio. Pretty sure that was it for options. It was pretty quick, but I should've bought the '69 Z/28 next to it...though I'd've probably killed myself in that.

Re: Camaro
We'll see what's next. I'm not much of a car guy, except for pre-73. Very few newer appeal to me. The only Camaro I've driven was a '69 Z/28 that I can recall, never owned any. I've never been a big fan of off the lot performance. In the muscle car era it was modified earlier cars for me (think 2-lane Blacktop), although I have owned a few in the '80s once they got older. My favorites are up to '67, Camaro's first year and my favorite. If I got a Classic it would be a Firebird

Re: Camaro
My one and only Camaro was a 79. Nothing special but it was super clean, low miles and made for a great daily driver. It was bronze and I put Weld Wheels on it. It looked like a fast car but it wasn't. Not even close. It had a lame 1979 era smog choked 305 in it but it was very dependable. I got it for $3000 and it got me to work and back without fail. I never had an issue with it. I only sold it because I needed a truck.
I take that back I almost forgot. I did have another Camaro. A 1987 RS that I picked up for $500 but I never drove it. It had about $900 worth of back tags due and the paint was a mess, and the upholstery wasn't much better. So I sold it for $800. It ran good. It just had issues and it smelled bad.

Re: Camaro
This is old news. It’s been rumored since 2019 that ‘24 was going to be the last year. They should have kept the 5th Gen alive longer, they would have kept selling. GM really did them selves a huge favor with the ugly A-F 2019+ refresh. I’d like to have a 17-18 ZL1 1LE or just a regular SS 1LE. That said my 5th Gen isn’t going anywhere. The rumor is the Camaro name is supposed to come back on a 4 door sedan EV… Barf…

Re: Camaro
^^^ Looks like a Blazer... the new one . I guess we can say GM is killing the Camaro... all but the name, same as blazer. The Car & Driver article isn't old news, it's present news, and the rumors that came before were just that, rumors. They will probably call the new one the Eco-maro

Re: Camaro
Really hate that manufacturers are stealing the names from muscle cars with a lineage of 50+ years and slapping on their new junky EV SUV`s to help them sell. Makes me dislike them that much more. I had a 69 Camaro in high school and a modified 74 Camaro in my early 20`s, both were really nice looking cars . What a discredit to these iconic cars, shame on them.

It's nothing new. Remember the Mustang II ? If you look at a 69 Mach 1 and a 76 Mustang Cobra they were marketed as being the same but one was a good looking car that you could get with a 428 and the other one was a POS with stickers on it. To me the "Camaro' SUV looks good. but I'd never buy one. Too impractical. Electric? 2 doors? Give me a break. An SUV is not a sports car, it's what you need to haul the kids and dogs or whatever crap you have around. It's a grocery getter. I have a SUV and I like it. It's great for what it is but it aint no Camaro. My Jeep has 4 doors and I use them all. That's what the U in SUV stands for... Utility. What's next? A Viper minivan? It's marketed for vegan, man bun wearing hipsters that want to look cool but still eco friendly.

You know the thing is, the 6th Gen is an amazing performer. They don’t look the best in my opinion but they do everything a muscle car should do a million times better than they should. GM has done absolutely zero to promote this car in any meaningful way since 2018-2019ish. Once the EV push from within gm took hold this car was dropped internally like a red headed step child. They wanted it to fail so they didn’t really change much other than make it more ugly. No big performance changes, other than adding the 10 speed, nothing major has changed. A little promoting the product and the right changes in the right places would have sold this platform like hot cakes.

Re: Camaro
You are absolutely correct about that. GM puts some stupid badges on the side of the “special addition” ‘24 models; Dodge gives you the option of stupid power and some pretty cool other stuff. I rest my case that GM bailed on this platform long ago. GM has failed its loyal base miserably in the last few years. Piss on them. I will not be spending any more of my money on anything new from them for a long time if ever. It’s sad because I’m a huge GM performance fan, I’m a HUGE late model Camaro lover having owned two of them. I own/have owned a bunch of cool go fast GM stuff in my life, but I’m not going EV, they can kiss my ass. They left me and many others behind. That’s ok when they go under again, I’ll be laughing my ass off.

Re: Camaro
I have a 2022 Equinox RS and I love it. It's got a wimpy little 1.5L turbo and it fuel average is around 29 mpg. It does everything I need it to do. I traded my 2021 Grand Cherokee L with a 294hp V6 that got like 16 mpg when the gas prices doubled. I have never looked back.

Re: Camaro
I don't care what they call it, they aren't marketing to me anyway. A younger generation that hasn't lived through every iteration of the Camaro wont be incensed haha. They've grown up with small SUV's and four doors anyway.
Personally I like the older Camaros, only up to early 70's, never enough to own one. The new ones can be bought as crazy performance rides for sure, I have a friend that has one and I feel suffocated sitting in it. Its a decent sized on the outside, as in kinda too big to my eyes. I have another friend (wow two heh) that has a 67 and a 69 project. The 67 is barely a shell, no interior, no drivetrain, and the back half has been narrowed for racing. Its going to need a ton of dough tossed at it to even make it streetable. He sold it a few weeks ago for 7500 bucks. Phone rang off the hook, first guy that called got it.

Re: Camaro
I'm sure the marketing team could come up with dozens of clever catchy for these totally different, totally new direction, totally for a different market vehicles. Why use a name from a mentality they are trying to kill and come up with one that appeals to that market. It makes more sense from the marketing standpoint. It's like tearing down all the statues of Confederate Generals, then renaming schools after them. GM is obviously trying to distance itself from the street performance market, yet support the Corvette and Cadillac racing teams, again, to make more money $elling car$. Hypocrites

Re: Camaro
I've got to think there is a generation of folks that grew up lusting after the current gen Camaro's that either are, or will soon be entering the market. I've gotta think they aren't going to be too impressed with the EV/SUV models either.
