Transmission coolers?

Looking at putting in a cooler but have to ask a few questions first. Wear is a good place to mount them? What is a good size to go with? When you remove the lines from the radiator, what is the best way to cap off the radiator hard lines? Any sugestions on a good quality would be great also. I am running a 327/350 with a 4:10 rear. I appreciate any imput.
Thanks,
Mario

Thumbs up

Hey Mario,
I'm thinking of the same thing. I've talked to a few people. B&M makes these but I think you can get a nice one at your local parts place. Most people mount these to the radiator but I have heard of mounting to the frame also. I think at least a 19,000 GVWR will be fine. Your radiator lines will run thru the new unit. It's a fairly easy job. Good luck!

I put mine infront of the "a/c radiator" (can't think of the name) and just cut the line going into the "real" radiator. The one I have is rated at 15,000 lbs.

I don't think it needs to be that HD but that's me "OVERKILL EVERYTHING"

I went down to the local parts store and got the bigest one I could find.

The lines are easy to cut with a small tubing cutter and then use some hose to attach the new trans cooler to the trans lines.

Then I got the cooling fan off of a geo metro and put it on top of it. I wired in a thermostat switch to turn it on and off so I dont have to mess with a switch

I mounted mine in front of the AC condensor with the little fan on top pushing toward the engine.

After reading this, I just went and picked one up too. It's a B&M Supercooler, 19,000 GVW I believe. I had to cut one of my stock cooler lines, but it went in without too much trouble. I mounted it to the radiator support instead of the radiator itself.

I just took mine off along with the oil cooler. The A/C condensor the oil cooler and the tranny cooler Restrict to much air flow into the radiator IMO.

Well I ordered the same cooler as Patric Sullivan yesterday. The B&M supercooler 19,000 and it will be ready for pick up tonight.
I replaced the traney a year and a half ago and have put about 3000 miles on it since. I figured with the long drive ahead of me, I would rather be safe than sorry. The wife would rather fix it when it is broke but you know, I am all about prevenative maintenance.
Thanks guys,
Mario
