4L60e quick disconnect fittings

I'm going to be throwing alot of questions over the next little while because me and my truck need to take a 5000km in a month, so I'm just trying to get everything squared away before then.

I'm using the original lines from the 84 K5 Blazer with the pipe thread b-nut ends, Im currently using the fittings (attached to the trans) from the old 700r4 in the 4l60 which dont belong at all.. just used them to get it started and moving under it own power now that its time to start really using this thing on highways, those fittings wont do, nor will they hold up to the pressure..

Anyone have a suggestion on how I could continue using the original lines but with a fitting with the proper thread pitch so actually seal the pressure... Or maybe someone knows the quick disconnect fittings thread pitch/size that way I could find a plug with that pitch and then drill and tap it for my pip thread lines... 2007 (new body) 5.3 4L60e

Thanks in advance!

Re: 4L60e quick disconnect fittings

Also, I'm curious if Dorman 800-755 would work in my case.

Re: 4L60e quick disconnect fittings

your talking about the o.e. hard line for the trans/trans cooler right?

I'd say you have two easy options; buy the aftermarket metric an fittings that fit the 4l60e (i don't have the part # handy but they are easy to find), then use an AN->HardLine fitting and its all connected.

The second option would be to see if the parts store has the "fix it" packs for the trans push-to-connect fittings. They do for fuel lines, so I think they offer them for tranny. Use a pipe cutter to lop off the old fitting that you don't like, and then flares and unions to attach the new stub of pipe and fitting that the kit gives you.

That same logic^^^ would also work if you wanted to hit a wrecker and pull some good-condition lines off another 4l60e truck. Again, just cut off the ends of both, and use flares and unions to hook them back up. IIRC its 3/8 or 5/16 dia hard line, so the regular brake fittings work to connect it fine, and the flares hold the pressure of trans just fine.

So are you saying you took the flare fittings out of the 700r4 and put them in the 4l60e? If so, why do you think they wont hold up to the pressure? I've done that several times without any problems what so ever, and I have thousands of miles on them.

The fitting has a different thread as of 11/29/07 going into the transmission, thats why the 700r4's fitting wont work.

AN fittings are out of the questions unfortunately, because my time schedule doesn't allow for it, I'm moving in less than a month haha.. I'm in a pretty remote location, and getting parts shipped takes a number of weeks.

I wanted to continue using the factory lines and just change the fitting to suit. I believe the thread is 9/16-18 but I dont really know and can't find any information about it. I'm hoping someone can chime in.. I was just thinking of finding a 9/16-18 plug and then drilling the center and tapping it for the 700r4 fitting. Kind of like a fitting on fitting sort of affair.. greasy I know, but not much else for an option unless there is something I can order fromt he napa here and even then takes a week or so.. but that I have time for.

Re: 4L60e quick disconnect fittings

Starting on 11-29-07 the cooler line fittings changed to 9/16-18 thread, Before 11-29-07 the fittings are 1/4" NPSM on ALL 4L60E, 4L65E, & 4L70E.

I found it on a tsb sometime ago, and then I found a post by Clinebarger confirming it..

That being said.. are the b-nuts on the trans lines also 1/4npsm? if thats the case I could do away with the other fittinf and just go right into the 9/16-18 plug that I will be drilling.. I haven't seen any dyes for 1/4npsm before though, can those be bought normally at a part store?..

Re: 4L60e quick disconnect fittings

If it has the 9/16-18 holes, Then it would be an '08 & up Case.
Did the Fittings you removed have O-rings on them? If so, You have 9/16-18 holes in the Case.

The early fittings have a seat that mates to the Case to seal.
The late fitting have an O-ring that seals to the Case.

The last '08 & up 4L60E I used in a swap......I used early 4T80E Cooler fittings (ACDelco 8684086), They worked perfect, They are 9/16-18 O-ring....But they are for 3/8" hard Line (The Flare Nut is 5/8-18)

Info on 8684086
2002, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1996, 1995 Cadillac Eldorado 4.6L V8 Gas DOHC 9/16-18 EXTERNAL THREAD, 5/8-18 SAE Flare INTERNAL THREAD

If you need to run 5/16 hard line, That requires use of a 1/2-20 Flare Nut.

I will keep looking for a 9/16-18 Male (O-ring) to a Female 1/2-20 SAE flare, But pigs may fly first.

Yeah there was an oring on the seat of the fitting off the 4l60. Currently I'm running the original 5/16 hard line that was stock on the 700r4 (84 truck).. you're saying that its currently 1/2-20 on that flare nut right now(on the line)? so I would need 9/16-18 male union/oring with a 1/2-20 female to make these lines work?

Yes, 5/16 Flare Nuts are 1/2-20.

Whatever you decide to do.....Make sure the inside of the fittings you get have a Inside Diameter of 5/16", No Smaller!!

The Cooler/Lube circuit on a 4L60E leaves a lot to be desired, Restricting the flow will cause issues down the road.

Re: 4L60e quick disconnect fittings

I meant 1/4" on the minimum I.D.

Here is what I came up with,

Two 9/16-18 (O-ring) to 1/4 NPT female Fittings. https://www.dixonvalve.com/product/6405-6-4

Two 1/2-20 SAE flare to 1/4" NPT male fittings. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bci-72001/overview/

This was just internet searching,

Thank you all for this thread. I thought I’d add a quick note in the event someone else needs help on the topic. Fitting 202-05-04 will let you convert from the stock 4L60E thread directly to 1/2-20 flare bushing.
