Re: '71 Chevy C10 LWB

Just got a call from the paintin dude....Summit sent me the wrong primer for the paint i wanted. They pulled up my invoice, and told me they messed up and they will send out the correct stuff and to just destroy the other primer. They have been really good to work with even with the mistake, no company is perfect but they truly get customer service. Kudos to them!

Thanks Todd. I gotta hold off on the chassis until the wife's camaro gets painted....something about not being fair to have my truck painted and not hers....hmmmm go figure! lol.

If we can get the primer the paintin' dude said we could have the whole truck painted by Sunday night if he doesnt get called into work...fingers are crossed!

Re: '71 Chevy C10 LWB

It just isn't meant to be. I checked my email this morning and got the shipping receipt from Summit for my primer and activator......they freakin shipped Clear Coat! This is twice they shipped me the wrong stuff. I called and politely worked with them and they were extremely apologetic but it will be another 3-4 business days. They have been very personable and apologetic but this has to be the last straw. I want to get it painted and the guy that is helping me wants it done as well so he can have his garage back. ugh.

Re: '71 Chevy C10 LWB

started on cleaning up the frame today. it wont be anywhere near some of the chassis on the board but we will get everything cleaned and than some paint shot on it to keep it somewhat protected and cleaner looking.

Note to self "when using an air sander, do NOT hold your finger on the edge of the 36 grit paper....it HURTS!!!!"

Re: '71 Chevy C10 LWB

Sorry about the issue with summit. Remember that there are minimum wage packers putting thing in boxes, its not always the reps fault. Nice work on the frame btw!

Bummer about the primer. They gonna let you keep the clear for all the hassle? Keep us updated.

Re: '71 Chevy C10 LWB

They let me keep the wrong primer but wouldn't let me keep the clear coat....trust me I tried! LOL.... I don't believe it was the packers because the wrong item number was on the invoice so I think someone just keyed it wrong on accident. I'm ok with them, just had to vent.

Re: '71 Chevy C10 LWB

Well the headers have been installed! Yee haw. We did some serious redneck engineering on the exhaust pipes for now. In the next couple months I will take the truck and have 3" exhaust put on. The turbo mufflers dump down right behind the cab at this point so we are pretty confident the truck will not sound like a sissy anymore hehe.

I was able to get the grille removed from the truck tonight as well so the paint job will look a little better also. Pictures will come soon.

Re: '71 Chevy C10 LWB

Well I got to start the truck with the headers and it does sound different. I just don't have enough motor to make it rumble, but that's ok, it isn't for speed....it's just to cruise around in.

Good news is I received my incorrect shipment from Summit, lol...to bad it isn't going to be used by me. Hopefully it will arrive on Monday so we can start shooting on Monday night.

Re: '71 Chevy C10 LWB

I bought one of those Styrofoam polishing balls that goes in a drill....works pretty good. I will need to use it more to get the hang of it but the bumper looks a lot better.

Re: '71 Chevy C10 LWB

Here is the rim polished, tire cleaned, and a small shot of the frame. I have a lot more work to do on the frame but I did shoot rustoleum primer on the parts I have finished. I will post a couple more frame pics.

Re: '71 Chevy C10 LWB

Going to try and finish up a lot of things today. I am figuring the CORRECT primer will get here tomorrow from Summit and the paint dude will start shootin'. We may take the truck over there if the forecast looks safe from rain.....which is almost a memory at this point of summer.

Re: '71 Chevy C10 LWB

WOW...it took me 45 minutes with a pressure washer with a 0 tip to clean the grease, mud, and yuck from the suspension and frame. It would have taken me weeks with a wire wheel and drill. I will post pics as soon as I finish up some house work. Got to drive the truck around town, that was nice.

Here is a pic of the truck in front of an old building we have in our town. Many senior pictures and automobile pics have been taken there.

Re: '71 Chevy C10 LWB

Spoke with the paint dude today, and we are shooting high build tonight!! So excited to get moving on this, it has been torture knowing it was so close to getting some paint put on it.

Ordered new front bumper bolt kit and new tail light trim today from LMC.

Does anyone know where I could find some flame decals? My Monte Carlo has flames on it from the factory and I am thinking about putting the same thing on the truck but not sure where to look and how much it will cost. Just a thought right now.
