Rear wheel wells same as pickup?

I want to widen the rear wheel wells in my Sub to get more tire clearance on the inboard side. I was going to split the well down the middle and weld another split well onto it. Once finished it would appear perfectly stock, just wider.

As long as I've been around these trucks I though I knew it all but I've found that not to be true since I found this site. Once again I assumed that the rear wheel wells were shared with the fleetside pickups. Now that I start looking close I see that is not 100% correct as they have different horizontal ribs in the inner vertical surface.

Has anyone had the two in their hand and compared them? Are there other differences? Do I have to get a Suburban/Panel well to do this?

Comparing the two above pics, it almost looks like the Sub wells are more rounded.

Here's the idea, I stole this pic from another thread-

they look different than the truck , I would just cut a seam down the center, and put in a piece of sheetmetal. you're just going to have 2 seams to grind instead of 1.

Re: Rear wheel wells same as pickup?

That's what I did on a past Suburban. I had trouble duplicating the rib around the bottom where the bolts go so it made it more obvious that it had been messed with. I thought welding a pair together would be easier and cleaner looking... however that may not be so easy either. Anybody scrapping out a Sububan or Panel with good wheel wells?

to duplicate that rib I would try some round rod ( I wonder if they make a 1/2 round?) and weld it to your filler piece.
