My grandpa told me this once: "Son, always yield to superior tonnage." Goes for trucks, trains, animals, etc.

That guy knows real life ain't no Disney movie. The furry critters do not want a hug.

Re: This is just plain funny!

Some of you guys aren't giving this guy much credit. First of all, 100 yds away from a bison coming out from the heard in your direction staring at you from 100 yds away is certainly the sign to GTFOOT and this guy isn't missing his cue. I have no doubt he had a justified cause for concern.

Where's the bison? If it was within camera shot we would not be watching this video of a person who is aware of the danger and responding accordingly. He's not a dumb tourist. Like he said, he has been the on seen reporter on multiple human/bison "encounters" and was out there with full handle on the situation. He was getting out of there before the bison charged.

Re: This is just plain funny!

I got eye to eye with one!
Helping my neighbour try to herd his two bulls back thru the hole in the fence they created while fighting.
While looking for where he went I darn near walked right into him. I dodged behind a shed and he dodged down the other side of it and out down the street.
I took a few minutes to check my shorts and off after him again. Took us about an hour to finally get him headed home.
Got a free tour of all the acreages in my neighbourhood though.

Re: This is just plain funny!

I tell you, talking about it is one thing. But every time I watch the video it cracks me up. I think it's funnier now than the first time. I just picture him saying that and I'm chuckling. I'm chuckling right now

Re: This is just plain funny!

I empathize with the reporter. In a previous life I was a stock handler (Cowboy without a horse) working various stock yards in Oklahoma.

I can testify that working Cattle and working Bison are 2 very different things. Just like catching Garter snakes and catching Cottonmouth snakes are different things. Bison are temperamental, lightning quick, and way stronger than cattle are.

Even the stock yards for the 2 are different. A regular cattle stock yard has steel pens and fences that are 5 to 6 foot high with 3" or 4" inch pipe posts and 1-1/2" pipe rails whereas the Bison yard is 7 to 8 foot high with 8" pipe posts and 3" pipe rails.

Believe me when I say working around Bison was really stressful.
