Hi Larry. I have had several of these c-20 trucks.this is the only one with a dana.i understand the 3.54 gear in this Dana was not available in the big Eaton rear
I don't know if it's that simple but works for me.the rear end code on the housing, build sheet and tag on a cover bolt, all indicate 3.54.

It seems that a lot of the big block trucks got the D60 with the 3.54 gears. Like mudn said, the Eaton's only had the 2 ratios for these trucks. 4.10 or 4.56.

Perhaps a function of G70 RPO. Order leafs, get a D60. I've had this in one C20 also (with original 350 also). Since GMCs came with leafs standard, believe D60 more common in a GMC C2500.
To Dieselwrencher's point, I think big block with an automatic automatically drove a buyer to a 3.54 ratio - and the only way to get that was via D60.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super 20 on the way home//update,it's finally home

a few more pictures of this truck as i'm trying to get it up and running. lots of goofy little things wrong but that's to be expected after 25 years of storage.i guess over it's years travelling from California to Idaho,it must've stayed in dry, dusty conditions cause i'm finding dust, sand and small rocks in everywhere.it's better that it was in storage there for 25 years and not here as anywhere you go,you're not far from salt water.here i'd be sweeping up the truck, not just dirt.dirt's a better deal.i found initials in the firewall, marked when the paint was still wet, power beam headlights that i believe are the originals.i just changed all the brakes and there were all Delco, maybe original.there are still "spiral" shocks on the rear.i changed the original AC fuel pump out for a new one even though it ran,25 years sitting isn't good for anything.new brake cylinders and brake hose on the rear, tried to change the front hoses but can't seem to find the correct hoses?the A/C still works but a noisy bearing in the compressor needs to be replaced.i tried to get the carpet in today but ran out of day as we were taking it to a little car get-together this evening so i put the seat back in and got to take it about 200 miles on it's maiden voyage to Masstown,Nova Scotia where i discovered the gas gauge doesn't work?i guess it's good i didn't get the carpet in,as the seat will have to come back out and i can work on the sender or ground, whatever the problem is but it drives like a new one.i'm super impressed although i still need a carb for it but i have this one running pretty well.a great day.

yes sir,it has been too long.this truck is the best one i ever had,it's unreal.so happy it didn't go to scrap and instead, landed here.we have very good friends in Ohio, who where coming here last year but couldn't.with the border just opening to them,it came too late and their plans for the summer where made long ago,so we're hoping that next year,we'll get there,or they'll get here to see our new place.i have a bunch of parts sitting in Calais,Maine, where my truck was.customs let the tow truck guy bring my truck across but not the parts.i didn't want to push my luck so i was happy to at least get the truck moving but whenever it does open,i can go get my parts.i'm hoping to go see the World of Outlaw sprint cars at Williamsgrove Speedway in PA in early October, couldn't go last year and had tickets.i am hoping that things improve and open up.better days are coming.take care.Greg

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super 20 on the way home

Big block C20's got Dana 60 with 3:54 ratio. I have one and did quite a bit of research and this seems to be the case, and is regardless of spring type. Seems small block got the Eaton, big block got Danas. My truck is a big block auto with coils and has the Dana.

Glad you kept the 16.5's, unnecessary to switch to 16's if the 16.5 transforce radials are still available , plus , you can say, "it's all original, even the wheels". This one really deserves the correct blue bowtie "convex style" hubcaps.

i'm very happy with the 16'5 Firestone's.they look right,as smooth as glass on the road.i have a set of new take off Ford E250 16 inch wheels at a friend's place in Newton Falls,Ohio.i had them shipped there when i thought there was a chance i'd drive the truck home and get them on the way, then i bought another set of 16 inch wheels with tires on them, then a new set of 16 inch tires, then decided to keep the original 16.5 wheels and buy the Firestone's.a buddy here bought the 16 inch tires.someday i'll advertize the wheels in Newton Falls and get them out of his way.very happy with the 16.5's
i agree,i need a set of the correct hubcaps.they were all gone from the truck.i suspect they were tossed out.i spoke to the almost 80 year old nephew of the original owner in Santa Ana,Ca.he was left the old place in Idaho where the truck was in a building for 25 years.a year or so ago they started cleaning up and were going to send the truck to the scrap yard.he told me he'd look this past June when he was in Idaho,in case the hubcaps were there in a box but no such luck.i had an NOS set years ago on a similar truck but sold it.too stoopid to hang onto the truck or hubcaps.it's ok.this is the best truck i ever had and i'll have a set of the correct hubcaps someday when i find some i don't have to sell a kidney for?i found 2 of the 73 and up hubcaps that aren't in great shape but better than nothing.it'll all work out.take care.Greg

Hey I just read the post about the 16" rims you had shipped to newton falls ohio. I live about an hour from there.

Any chance you would want to sell them? I have 4 hub caps for my truck but no wheels. Previous owner painted some wagon wheels which look like...well painted wagon wheels.

Thanks Ryan. It is coming around and looking alot better. The paint on the hood, cowl, tops of the doors and fenders isn't great. I doubt my body shop can fix it without it looking obvious but I will go see them and see what they advise.it can stay just like it is but I wish the paint was a little better but it's all good, whatever happens. Take care.Greg

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Super 20 on the way home

just a little update.i may have mentioned,i had a new windshield installed at a local glass place, the guy was watching a video on Youtube University on how to install the windshield??that should've been my first clue?anyway they did a horrible job so i called and said i was bringing it back, the lady said fine so when i got there, the guy came out all chippy and defensive wanting to know what was wrong so i told him.he said it's as good as it gets and not worth taking it back out to do it over.it most certainly is i said and if you have to take it in in and out 10 times,i don't care.do it right or do it over,or if all else fails,i'll do it myself..i have new tailpipes from Waldron's Exhaust sitting at the border along with a bunch of part, can't go get them as the border is still closed.i do have a correct 7042206 carb in the mail coming from a member in Ohio, thanks Jeff.once it lands,i'll go through the carb and finally have this running like it should and fire that messed up carb on it,onto the parts heap.i've been busy inside the cab, just detail stuff, cleaning the dead mice out of the cowl vents, polishing all the painted surfaces, polishing screws, cleaning and more cleaning.i think we're finally finding a truck in there.i did get a new carpet that came with the truck and i removed the seat to install it but it's not the right color green so i ordered a new dark olive carpet and the carpeted mats from ACC and they should be here monday,so i'm looking forward to next week,a new carb and carpet.it'll be nice to have it run better and cover up the steel floor.more to report next week.
