Re: Got the message!!! Grandfathers 1971 GMC

Enjoy more photos of my adventures over the last 2 days

It’s a blast, I can’t stop sitting in the drivers seat or just looking it over and over

It feels like I’m in a dream

I have a slight miss every once in a while. It’s like it wants to cut off but doesn’t and doesn’t happen again for like another 25 mins…. Or whenever randomly

Can't see anyone laughing about this. I think that it is really neat that the people who had it took good enough care of it that you could drive it 2 hours home with no problem. We've seen some real horror stories around here.

What an awesome end to the saga! And as stated above, an extra bonus that it could be driven home. Now onto the next chapter with some project updates!

Re: Got the message!!! Grandfathers 1971 GMC

The only hiccup we had was low coolant. Filled it up and away we went

Just had the top radiator hose replaced, looked like a black snake swallowed an egg

Not your point at all, but I'm lovin' the 420 parked behind the truck.

Re: Got the message!!! Grandfathers 1971 GMC

Yesterday was fun!. I took the gmc truck for it’s first get together(mini show). In my downtown and, it sss so much fun talking to people and so on!!!

Went on a mini road trip. I stopped for gas, somehow I must’ve forgot to put the gas cap
back on, but it stayed on the bedside for around 15 mins or so. I got out to take a photo, and was like ah crap. Where is the gas cap?. Well, there it was on the top of the bed side where I normally put it when I put gas into it

I went to my grandfathers hometown,(20 mins away). I stopped by what was his old high school and today. I’m going by his family’s old house to snap a photo.

Feels good making new memories and remembering the old ones

The funniest memory I think I have of this truck was, we pulled his fathers old 50’s style boat back to our town, and had to hide behind a movie theater in fear the LPD. Would pull us due to no tag on the boat haha

I had to be like 6?

I wish I could explain the feeling I get when I open the door? When I sit on the seat or even turn the key

My friends are all like. Nothing I have ever owned, compared to the love you have for this truck

and… they’re right. I love this blue gmc so dearly

Papa was holding onto that gas cap in place for you! I am enjoying your adventures. Sure makes me homesick for Carolina. I'm from Sparta in Alleghany County up near Boone. Keep the stories coming! Stop in and have a Sundrop or Cheerwine and a pack of square nabs for me.

My trick for remembering the gas cap....I set it in/on my seat, that way I have to put it back on or sit on it.

Re: Got the message!!! Grandfathers 1971 GMC

This is one of my favorite stories on here because of the history and your personal connection to the truck. Maybe I missed it along the way, but what are your overall plans for the truck? Are you trying to restore it back to OG like grandpa had? I bet with some patience you could get most of that primer off and back to the original paint underneath. Of course, a full set of trim would finish off all the holes and get it closer to how it was originally. If you ever go back to original wheels I have a full set of P01 wheel covers that would look perfect on your truck.

What I have Learned over the years.

Is,
The Dipstick tube needs to be correct (With the Correct O-Ring installed).

Once you installed the dipstick,
The tab on the Transmission Bellhousing (Needs ) should be pretty close when Installing that Bolt in the transmission .

Sometimes the tube gets bent and other times the tab gets bent.

Also the Correct diameter O-Ring needs to be use.

The tube needs to be in a Relaxed state without the o-ring.
To Further Explain:

The Dip-Stick Tube should go in?
Without any issues with the O-Ring not installed.

If You can NOT put the tube in without the O-Ring on it.

It will Most likely Not seal when you install the O-Ring.

Hope this Helps.
