Saginaw 3 speed to SM465

Ok guys I’m in the decision making process with what motor I’m swapping into my ‘77 C10. It currently has a 250ci/Saginaw 3 speed in it, I have a 350 SBC and a 454 BBC that I can swap in(the six is neat but I want a V8). If I do the small block I’ll probably keep the 3 speed, but if I do the big block I want to swap in a SM465 as well.

Does anyone know for sure what tranny crossmember I’d need for the 4 speed? I have Googled my ass off and can’t find anything concrete. I know I’ll need the tail end tranny mount bracket thingy(won’t be using a 50’s/60’s bell housing mount obviously) for the tranny, I just don’t know what crossmember to use. Crossing my fingers I can reuse the one I have lol

Thanks!

You may need a bell housing also. The nose cone for the throw out bearing may be larger on the 465. A lot of times with the square bodies all that is needed is moving the cross member into a different set of holes already pre-drilled in the frame

Re: Saginaw 3 speed to SM465

I have an 83 GMC I bought off a friend a few months ago. When he bought the truck in '91, it was a 3-speed. He converted in to SM465 in 92, and based off the list of parts he bought for the conversion, reused the 3-speed cross member.
Been under the truck several times and looked at that cross member and it looks like it could possibly work with an auto trans as well...
