Bench seat end spring replacements

I am trying to repair a seat spring that has the end support springs broken on both ends.Does anyone know if the LMC part # 30-3124 works on a on a 69-72 full foam seat? Their website says it is for 67-68. If the part will not work is there another source for the correct part?

Re: Bench seat end spring replacements

This is the type spring you need for a full foam seat . I don't know of anyone reproducing them , Place a want to buy in the parts section or try your local interior shop and see if they have a generic replacment .

Re: Bench seat end spring replacements

Those used to be sold by USA 1 Industries 20308-part number.
You would get 4 springs back in 2018.

I only found this listing from eBay for 2 springs for about $50.

Re: Bench seat end spring replacements

I went up to a hobby store and bought piano wire. I should have gone to an upholstery shop. Didn't cost much, but what a female dog to bend into shape!

Re: Bench seat end spring replacements

Cut up an old box spring mattress to make one . Wasn’t easy to cut out it dulled out two steel bi-metal Milwaukee blades . And it was a bear to bend even in the vise

Does anyone have a photo of the correct spring attached to the frame? I have a spring type frame that I can use for parts. I have removed a few springs from it but I’m having a hard time getting the support I need on the end spring without getting in the way of the foam. I suppose I could both h the foam to get around the problem but I am trying to avoid it.

Re: Bench seat end spring replacements

USA1 Industries has the springs that I use. I also double up on the end springs. I think that is why these are always broken, GM only had 1 per side. It just isn’t enough.

Re: Bench seat end spring replacements

I also have the original sized springs if you want to use those instead of the repop end springs. After looking at your seat frame, I see you can only use one per side.
You’re welcome to them.

TKCR I just checked their website and could not find them.
Do you have an updated part number?

You’re right, they are not on USA1 website anymore. But that is where I always got mine.
LMC has them also

Re: Bench seat end spring replacements

I appreciate all of the help on this. Does anyone know if the LMC springs that are linked will fit a 69-72 seat frame? It says 73-87 but it looks like it could work.

I took some springs out of the original seat in my truck, which is not the full foam seat, and bent them so I think they will work. The problem is they are a smaller gauge wire than the broken spring which was already apparently not strong enough since they are so commonly broken. I may have to see if I can figure out a way to use 2 springs as TXCR suggested.

I don’t see why the LMC end springs wouldn’t work. The seat frame you have is pretty much identical to the 73-80 seat frames. It doesn’t say 73-87, it’s 73-80. The 81-87 seat frame was totally redesigned. So those ends springs definitely don’t work on the 81-87 seats.

Re: Bench seat end spring replacements

Try Bill's Truck Shop in Ontario, Canada. I linked the catalog for 67-72 parts below, I think the springs shown on page 47 (with price on page 48) are what you are looking for. When I rebuilt my bench seat I bought a length of spring, similar to what Getter Done posted above, from an upholstery shop and bent it into the correct shape. This was before I found out that Bill's sold these springs.

You’re missing that entire end spring. You’ll have to find a donor seat for that.
