I have a small block but big blocks are fun to just depends on how you build the small block, I've seen built 350's take a big block to school & educate them on how they should run.....lol what it comes down to if you have the money, if you do- go with a big block, if you dont then build a nice small block, if you are doing it to be different, then do somthing different, I've seen about everthing from blowers,turbos,propane.....just somthing to thing about......plus what are you going to use it for pulling,street-strip,cruzing, all are a big part on how the engine should be built, lets hear your thoughts & maybe I can help you more thers more to a engine than big block- small block.

I have to agree with diggin69, there is so much that can be done with a small block. The plus is that it can be done much more economically than a big block. I put a new 350 in my 72 and am very happy with it. That said, a big block would be fun to play with. To each his (or her) own.

Question

Its not the size of the wand that matters.....it's the magic in it.
SBC is probably the least expensive motor to build.
Although if money is no issue and if your looking for the most streetable HP then there is no substitute for CU.IN.
And this could also include a 400 SB.

SO really the issue is not SB vs BB Unless you go BIG block with 455 or more cu.in.

think of these stock engines...
SBC = 400 cu.in.
BBC = 396, 402 cu.in.
Just something to ponder.........

So like diggin69 says, Let us know what your trying to accomplish and maybe we can help.

I like the small block also but I am a fan of the big block also. Put the same money in them and you will have some catching up to do with the small block. Just my 2 cents.

Bought my BB truck with a 4 speed for runs to the dump when I bought my land. Now all the land is cleared, and it's time to play more. Got an automatic column (thanks, Meathead 95) and just bought a 700R4. Will have it built up so I can pull my car trailer at freeway speeds. No more dump runs for this baby, it's time for fun!

I'm crazy about big blocks. I can still remember when i was about 8 years old and looking over the fender of my uncles '68 camaro/396. Just gazing at those big valve covers and dreaming of the day when i could have my own!!

I've been giddy as a little school girl since the 502 came out but... I currently have a 400SB stretched out to 413 so it's the best of both worlds- a small block that runs like a big block AND gets 12mpg

Fortunately I have had most all of em from straight 6's to V10 Vipers......Love the windup sound of a sweet small block but when it comes to torque and pure power the big blocks comes thru as nothing else can.

Just finished a 72 Cheyenne stepside with a 402...on the outside looks bone stock but with some tricks inside she pours out the power.

I bought an Avalanche last year with the 496 Big Block.....now thats a real engine.

its a love hate relationship. On the one hand i love the 500+ Horse from the ls6 in the 69 but on the other handni hate how it costs me 20 bucks a day on gas. my truck is not a daily driver because i am not a CEO of a company who sells my own stocks before the company goes down
