Short bed saddle tanks

I have a 1972 Cheyenne 10 4x4 short bed. I've had it over twenty years. It was my first truck. My question is abut the dealer installed saddle tanks. I will soon be getting some paint and body work done and am considering removing the tanks. I don't really use them and I like the clean look without the fuel doors on the side. On the other hand they work perfectly and even have a sending unit in each tank so the fuel gage works which I've not seen before. I kind of hate to mess with the way the truck has been for 45 years even if they aren't factory and they're not very common on a short bed. Should I keep them or get rid of them? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

There's your answer -- you don't use them and you don't like the look. Remove them, get a board subscription, and sell them.

I had a set of those just like that with sending units in my attic for 25 years, sold them here on the board for about $200 or so last fall, neat units and not seen very often.

Re: Short bed saddle tanks

the short bed tanks would sell very fast, not as many of them around..and if you like the looks without the doors in the bedsides, you could always have someone modify the tanks for you and have the filler necks right in front of the rear tires, that's what I did....so no doors in the sides

Mine are buried 20 feet deep in the landfill. I figure a foot a year.
