Dome Light Wire Routing

Ok, I'm probably over thinking this but I am trying to run a new dome light wire. The old wire is gone so I can't use it to pull the new wire though. Nor do I have any idea how the wire was routed from the factory. I have managed to get a line run from the dorm light opening to the driver side cab corner. If I go down I can run it in the floor/inner rocker channel. But then where would you run the wire from there once you get to the A-pillar?

I have been trying to fish the wire in the roof above the drive side door opening but haven't been able to get it through. Which way should I be trying to run the wires?

Re: Dome Light Wire Routing

Just bought a new light but haven't put it in yet. Assuming my 72 is the same, your first instinct was correct. From the center to the upper cab corner, down the B pillar, under the kickplate to the connector which is under the carpet I think near or on the firewall. If you have the correct reproduction light, you should see the compatible connector somewhere on the floor.

Re: Dome Light Wire Routing

My new light does not have a connector on it. It has just the two wires and about 6-8 feet of wire.

I have been trying to fish the wire up the A-pillar but no luck there. I can get it up to the roof line and no furher. Same thing going from the sun visor hole to the rear cab corner on the drivers side.

It's been awhile but you don't go to the A-pillar. I think you connect to an orange wire, possibly on the floor near the dimmer switch.... if not there, under the dash. Pretty sure it's orange though.

Re: Dome Light Wire Routing

you are over thinking it. It runs from the dome light hole down to the cab corner and along the inner/outer rocker as you stated. From there it just runs under the carpet to the fuse box. Or at least that is the way mine is run.

Re: Dome Light Wire Routing

Thanks for confirming that I was over thinking it. That will make running the wires a lot easier AND less stressful.

Re: Dome Light Wire Routing

Use a metal wire snake to get the wires up to the dome light, just did it yesterday works like a charm.

Re: Dome Light Wire Routing

@Tripmiester - where did you start the wire snake wire from? I assume from the driver side floor (behind the drive side seat)?

Edit: I am asking since I need to run a new wire for a Cargo Brake Light, as I'll be installing a new Cargo Light that has LED Whites and then Reds for breaking. I believe the wires going into the Dome, piggyback off to the Cargo light - thus running a break line I think I follow the dome light path.

Thumbs up Re: Dome Light Wire Routing

Here is my thread on doing this. I used a old drop cord to fish the wires through. Ground the wire anyplace that is convent and run the hot through the gutter up to the front of the truck under the carpet and tie into your fuse that has the lights labeled.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
