It sure was. I tore it down in '04 to build a shortbed because my wife kept planning vacations that didn't involve camping and just my young son and I used it some. The truck needed work and it seemed a 4wd with low-profile (crank-up) camper would suit us better. With the overhang and slide back bumper towing was limited and it was higher than I'd like to load kayaks or canoes. The woman ran off on us before I could get a camper for the '72 K2500 and it never happened. Him and I could have gotten a lot of use out of that once she left. Oh well.

Found this when I pulled the carpet
It was under the tar mat
Didn't even see it for several weeks, until I was getting ready to put the new carpet in.
You can see it was folded over at the high hump.
I was stoked to say the least

The interior is about perfect as it is now.
I think Chinook actually dyed the seats and door panels
The headliner is cut out to allow passing through, but it is parchment
All I am doing is new carpet
New wood inserts in door panels
And I had custom sheep skin seat covers made for comfort over original buckets

Here it is in paint
And right after it came out

You can see we striped the paint on the sides of the coach

That came out nice. I always wondered how to paint a motor home's cab roof.... Seems darn near impossible to me without some major muscle movements!

The side door was pretty much toast.
We are in the process of building a new one.

That is actually a fiberglass cap. Moulded in white.
Chinook is know for this. Helping against leaks

Need to finish interior still, in the coach.
And a few exterior trim things
The hard part, it takes a lot of shop space.
Problem is, after all that buffing, I hardly want to leave it outside

Campers with fiberglass tps have proven themselves a more than worthy investment today. I wanted to buy the GMC Chinook Livrat was selling here about 10 years ago. I think Superchevy ended up buying it. It was Medium Gold Poly, just like the '70 CST/30 Custom Camper former class C Winnebago I bought as a cab & chassis. I'd believe Chinook might have dyed the interior. Mine had a Parchment bench seat interior. Winne replaced the cloth seating surfaces with a plaid cloth. Those name brand companies did a lot more than just mount their camper on GM's truck, like the more economical ones did.

Oh. I misunderstood
No power tools in that space.
Also the paint is not as smooth as all other areas, because you can't lay it on correctly
But looks fine, you can't tell unless you run your hand over it
The hardest part is getting the cab clearance lights off, and then back on
I've still got one to go,it ain't easy

I used to paint large utility trucks/equip for a living back in the late 90's, It was all for our power/electric provider here in Maryland, Baltimore Gas & Electric co./ BGE and when it came to prepping/painting those tight areas like that roof between the camper It is a PITA, but it can be done properly. For those cab lights, I used a specialty screwdriver from Matco that has a 90* bend in it close to the head. For prep, it was hand or block(if it fit) sanding and prep solvent/ tack cloth. For paint it was turn the flow up to heavy and the fan spray down to a tight pattern and hold the gun back a bit. Its kinda like those carnival games where you have to shoot the water gun into the little hole from just too far away, that's about the best explanation for that part, lol. And don't be afraid to lay it heavy there either. I don't miss that work!
