Turning a truck into a bar...

Now that the truck is almost finished (almost 12 years now), we have decided to turn some of the remaining parts into a bar for our outdoor kitchen area. Since we had an old front end left, we are turning it into a moveable bar that will be on wheels.

The only issue we are still trying to work out is how to make the wheels fit into it and look like it is natural inside the wheels. Any suggestions?

Also, we are looking for suggestions to clean the rust and paint to get a nice patina look.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

The area inside the blue tape will be cut out for the counter top.

That's going to be way cool! Working lights are a must. Do post pics during your build!

Re: Turning a truck into a bar...

I assume you want to put “real” wheels in the fenders. If you want it easily moveable have the real wheels be an inch above the ground and use casters at the 4 corners. As for the rest, build a box inside the front sheet metal as close to the outside as you can get. Have the box extend down as far to the ground as your comfortable. Put the casters inside the box at the corners and have the box come down around them to hide them. Paint whatever is exposed under the sheet metal black.

Re: Turning a truck into a bar...

I would start with this lift table to move it.
Name: lift.jpg
Views: 609
Size: 35.0 KB
Next I would build a frame attached to this cart, that would give you 4 adjustable legs.
Then I would find a way to mount the tires and rims in the fender wells
And have a wiring harness for the lights to work.

Cool idea, I haven't seen that done before.

I would suggest leaving the paint exactly as it is. Naturally weathered.

How low do you want this bar? I figure at the proper height it would sit up like a 4wd, no problem fitting tires

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

I hate to tell you but you aren't the first guy to turn a truck into a bar. Well, a different way of going about it, I'd say. And it's a Ford!

Re: Turning a truck into a bar...

Made a template for the top that will go on it. The front of it is made to match the front of the truck, as it comes to a bit of a point. The top that will go on it will be a concrete one like we made to put on top of the tool boxes that are already outside for the kitchen area.

Some bars ring a bell when the bartender gets a tip.
You need a horn to toot when you get a tip. :-)

This is awesome. My goal with my CBR600F4i is to put glass on top and turn it into a bar when it hits 99,999 miles as retirement.

Well, its been awhile but we are back to it! We got the forms made for the counter tops and will probably pour the concrete either today or tomorrow. The tops will be made in three sections, one across the front and then one for each side

Re: Turning a truck into a bar...

Good progress, I like it. I wonder if the inside of the grill will have a shelf so you can store bottles and they would show through the grill. Put some colorful bottles in there. And under-cabinet lights to shine on them. When you add the headlights don't forget to also add a horn under there, and a mysterious button on the counter top for people to press and get a surprise. Are you going to include the cowl cover with an old radio antenna mounted on it?
