The truck had 168k on it 1993. It now has 169k found a receipt that engine was rebuilding 1990 with 155k miles.

Where did you buy that truck from? It can't be a New York state truck. It'd be a rust bucket.

Wish you were closer, I have a bottle of nitrogen in the shop at work. It and a little soapy water can find leaks...some times...depending where they are and how big...

Went from New Mexico to Arizona then to PA into storage. Hence all the nut shells in the engine bay .

Doing the conversion so I can use these on the truck. Bought them from Specialk for the suburban. Sold the burban same day I picked these up. 7" and 8" rallies.

Re: My 68 anniversary arrived today

Awesome combination of wheels!!!
P215-70R15 fronts, P275-60R15's on back are what's going on my 67 to start with, My fronts are actually 6-1/2 inchers...

There's a thread her, about dfferent colors of paint on Rally wheels. One that stck out to me was one wheel painted gold. THe owner had some left over gold Olds engine paint left over. Looked very sharp. I was thinking would be way cool on mt gold 68...

All the instructions that comes with new AC compressors, it always says to stand the compressor on the bench, with clutch end down, for a couple of hours (of course with the correct oil in it). I even spin mine a few times to make sure the seal position changes,. I've never had a problem, even if I for got to do this. BUT have run into a Former fellow mechanic that had problems, until he stood the compressor on it's end!!!

It's a long funny story...

If the compressor seal leaked, you'll see a light stripe of oil across the hood in line with the seal.

Re: My 68 anniversary arrived today

Those bumpers sucked!!! If you just slightly tap something, backing into...it'll put a real nice crease behind the wheel, area...sometimes the bumper doesn't even bend, just leaves it's mark...
I cut the wings off my 68, years ago. Had a friend weld a tab on the end, to look a little better...

Re: My 68 anniversary arrived today

The original bumper on mine (after I looked closer at picture in post 18), looked a lot more like the picture in post 40, with wings. Of course, it did not have the diamond plating texture...AND I believe my rear bumper was painted white.

Yeah, and I was thinking not much bump bump protection either. I guess no worse than the standard bumper everyone calls a sport bumper.

That bumper might be an easy one to adapt to the Stepside

Been there, done that . What about one of each configuration? Has that bug hit you yet? (I saw you mention wanting a Suburban)

Re: My 68 anniversary arrived today

I like the idea of having three keepers, including a 67-68, a 69-70, and a 71-72. And between the three of them, covering in some combination as many of the options as possible like c/k, lwb/swb, 10/20/30, manual/auto, loaded/bare bones, etc. At this phase of my life I can only have one keeper though, which makes it really tough to choose. lol

Re: My 68 anniversary arrived today

I guess I was pretty much forced to chose, to reduce. My minimum permanent solution is covering both ends of the spectrum with a scratch-built '67 C1500 hot little mild custom built to suit and a '72 K2500 factory built with nice options (and a few personal touches). I'd like one to be a Fenderside and one to be a Wideside, but might end up with two Fendersides. If the corral can grow, I have no issue with that . But honestly, I have accepted having less and it I was able to get more I'd to go back farther in time. Actually, I have pretty much all I need to build a badass off road 4wd truck

Congrats on the truck! Original paint anniversary trucks are hard to come by. Here’s mine, still used for work and hauling stuff. I need to finish buffing out the paint.
