Ignition Switch Dash Emblem (ACC - OFF - ON - START)

I've done both a Google search and a search here on the forums for this but still can't positively confirm my suspicion so I'm hoping someone here knows for sure:

My '68 GMC does not seem to have holes above the ignition switch for the ignition dash emblem. I have most of my dash apart right now and have even felt on the back side where it should go in case they were filled in by a PO at some point years back.... nothing.

I know the '67s (especially) and '68s had a fair amount of small (and large) differences from the the 69-72's; did the 67-68's not originally have this emblem? I saw via my google search in the pictures section that a lot of stock looking 68 dashes did not have it either.

Just wondering if someone was able to confirm or not.

Thanks!

Re: Ignition Switch Dash Emblem (ACC - OFF - ON - START)

My '68 Chevy did not have that emblem originally. I replaced my entire dash with a newer dash, and now it has the emblem. I went through three reproduction emblems before I was able to get one installed without breaking off the tabs. On the third one, I shaved down the tabs a bit before installation.

In '67 the ignition switch didn't have an "ACC" position, so the emblem wouldn't make sense for a '67. Also the ignition switch hole was smaller.

Another difference I ran into between dashes was the location of the headlight & wiper switches. I had to file a notch in one of the holes to allow the headlight switch to be in the lower left location instead of the upper left location.

Re: Ignition Switch Dash Emblem (ACC - OFF - ON - START)

Yea, looks like my hunch is turning out: the '67 & 68's didn't have this emblem. And as pjmoreland stated, wouldn't even make sense/be accurate for the 67's due to not having an actual "ACC" position on the ignition switch.

It would be nice if the aftermarket vendors would state this little bit of info for this. They're pretty good about a lot of the stuff, maybe this one has just slipped by. Eh, I'm out a whole $3.

Looks like LMC actually does list this emblem as '69-'72". But I'm looking at another that just has the "67-'72" description.

Thanks for the help guys!
