Re: My Facetruck thread.

These pictures of bicycles reminds me when I went to Cottonwood Falls about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I saw a fella that had a Penny-Farthing bicycle. If you did an endo on one of these could possibly end your life.

Re: My Facetruck thread.

I love old bicycles but never had interest in those! They call the bikes we know that came after those, the ones with same size tires and a chain to the rear wheel, "safety cycles". Get why?

special-k told me this thread is talking about muscle bicycles! My parents got me this, wiped out the first day on sand that washed onto the street (bent handlebar). After looking at the picture, remember the chain guard was removed because I tore pants. I lived in Tucson, rode it like a BMX bike, the parallelogram frame collapsed after a few jumps. One time I crashed, was knocked senseless, managed to walk back home but didn't know my name.

I worked a short stint at a bike shop in the early 80s. Someone brought this in, asking about fixing the bent gooseneck. The owner gave a quote, the guy flinched, I asked to buy it, SOLD! It's rideable enough, did a 4th of July parade with the bike club. Then hung in the rafters of my shop, where it's been about 35 years. Almost hurt myself getting it down yesterday, weighs a ton! Cleaned and lubed, but need to replace the brake cables, and see if the bike shop can get the 3 speed to shift, seems to be stuck in 3rd. Made the chain-guard from a scavenged stove door, hardly a replica, but it's not worth restoring.

Found a good location to take lots of pictures. LOL

I looked at Flickr for pictures, noticed my model with 5 speed and high sissy bar is really rare. Figures, story of my life. At least this one is a Mk1, probably 1970. In Ireland they have rallies where people do group rides. This bike saved Raleigh from bankruptcy. The safety was questioned in Parliament. There are museums with them on display. I never knew......

Anyway, now that I'm in the Fakebook klink for 30 days, I'll be on this forum more often.

We took a drive over to Yellville, AR to eat BBQ yesterday. Our 16 year old granddaughter drives the Ochre K10. We caused quite a stir at the restaurant.

I bet you did. A mobile classic Chevy Truck show. I've been thinking about taking a drive for BBQ all weekend. Now I have to go

Re: My Facetruck thread.

Reminds me of one of my friends who took a 360 out of a wrecked (Suzuki?) motorcycle and put it in a Moped frame. Took off down the street and the throttle cable stuck. He ended up running behind it until it fell over. HE came out of it unscratched!

I was doing some reading on nitrous systems. Author told about a guy who put a 50 HP system on a motorcycle and used a toggle switch instead of a momentary switch. Once he hit the nitrous, he couldn't get his hand back over to shut it down because it was pulling too hard. Rode it as long as he could and then bailed.

Yeah, that stuff happens. I recall that I posted here about riding a 350 Kawasaki triple and just barely being able to get the throttle closed while hanging off it like an ape in a tree before hitting a chain link fence! (Didn't hit that fence, but it was a close call) At least I didn't have to bail, but that was just pure dumb luck, on my part.

That right there is what us younger generations call whiskey throttle. It’s always funny when it happens to someone else but sucks royally when it happens to you
