I will never complain about the 72 bench seat again.

After my drive in the 85 to Tennessee I think my 72 is way more comfortable . It seems that the rearward down angle of the seat bottom causes some severe pain in my right leg mostly a sciatica type pain because I dont have cruise control like in my 77 which the seat actually was flatter. I was thinking maybe lift the rear with blocks but I think it would tilt the back to far forward. I tried one of those memory foam seat cushions not a great help.

So I guess I'm either going to have to modify the seat or change it out. Modifying the seat bottom would require a mod to the cover itself also . I borrowed this pic from TCKRs thread but the rear of the seat is lower than the knee point.

Any suggestions ?

Re: I will never complain about the 72 bench seat again.

I feel your pain. I bought an '05 Corolla new, and the seat cut into my leg and gave me symptoms like yours. Fortunately I could pump the seat up in back, and with a wedge of foam I could take the pressure off. The car also had an adjustable back rest, so I didn't lean too far forward. You might look into what it would take to tilt the back rest back some. I think it hits on hard pads, though, so it may not be possible without some real tweaking.

Is the foam just too worn and you're sinking too deep into the seat which is making it worse?

Balkamp 8235194 from your local NAPA. Works pretty well for me...

I would try lifting the back with blocks at the mounting bolts and see what you get. You may like it. Try a couple of different thicknesses of blocks.

I thought of doing that but as I raise the back the rear of the seat will angle forward . But maybe it wont be an awkward angle . Worth a shot
