Isky 262 supercam. How have they worked for you?

Was wanting to know how thease cams have worked for people who actually use them on small block chevys. Low end, mpg improve or not. Also the 256 and 256-262 rv type. Whats your combo and rear end and how does it work.

OLD thread, but I'm wondering the same...

How would the Isky 262 Supercam work in a stock but well-tuned 402?

Re: Isky 262 supercam. How have they worked for you?

Well, it's stock internally. It's an originally installed, untouched 1970 402 in a 2wd GMC 10. It's got 85K miles and burn NO oil. Gonna keep the cast iron manifolds, duals, and quadrajet, but have swapped to a large cap HEI. I can recurve the distributor and tune/rejet the Qjet, but don't plan to rebuild the engine right now... it just needs a rear main seal and a cam (have been fighting a sticky lifter and with that rear seal leaking... "I'm going in"). Rear is a 3.08, tire is 235/75-15 and I haul dirt bikes 2 hours up the freeway. I'd like to have it sound a little warmer than stock but I'm concerned about how much vacuum is needed to run all those crazy vents. What else?

Stock cam 'should be' 196 @ 050, .398" lift, 114 LSA
Isky 262 is 208 @ 050, .488" lift, 108 LSA

The Isky is the wrong cam for your combo.
That tight lsa will make for poor vacuum.
You need something with a bit more modern duration with about the same lift.
220 at 050 and 112 lsa.
And those older style cams have lazy ramps, new modern cams have quicker ramps.
Call comp cams, give them your specs and see what they suggest.

Re: Isky 262 supercam. How have they worked for you?

Thanks. I like the older cams because they have a little gentler action, and this is by far no race car. It's an older motor, and although I'll correctly set up the valve train, I'm concerned about the really intense cams. Ran Isky years ago... they are admittedly old designs but man do they work! 108 centers are fun. They tend to bring in a little idle sound on cams that are not very large (like this 208 @ 050) but smooth out very quickly above idle and have tremendous torque. I've looked at Lunati and Comp, too, but would really like to find a nostalgic cam for my nostalgic truck! I've used the 262 but in smaller motors and never in a truck. Thanks again!

Talked to Ron at Isky. He thinks the 256/262 on 110 LSC would be a better choice with the low stock compression and to ensure enough vacuum for the vent doors. I thought that was a good point!
